I've always enjoyed the sound of spectral FXed guitar fed into a screaming feedback amp loop, sounds nothing like a guitar if you do it right, but makes an absolutely beautiful gentle pad sound
And on-topic: Midiworks seems to have an attitude I agree with and I look forwards to the usable demos. Keep up the good work guys

@Lunch Money
As you have said, we agree about most of things. It just seems that you are talking more from general perspective, and I am talking about current situation and IMHO unrealistic attitude people have about amp sims, especially. I mean, they are more choosy when it comes about software VA and what price should be paid for soft synth compared to what they swallow from companies making amp sims. Maybe my attitude would be different if guitar rig or amplitube price could be 200 euros instead of current price, and then people could make comments like "Well it is nice, value for the money, very usable, so I think I'll buy it". I have a good will to make demos and I'm giving attention to this thread because it is good that someone else is about to make better (at least it looks like that for now) simulation for a less money, and I think it is a good think for end users. Definition what is value for the money in small world of amp sims will change, even if I am probably customer because I need stuff I can carry around easily. Anyway, I'll shut up starting to repeat myself
Please, don't say that there was different cab in "8 hours free xmass plugin"

He could release few different versions, so they can become collectibles... "Have them all" type of stuff for "fans" coming here at the topic often

Well it is ok to me, because I see it from a producers perspective and not as a guitarist. I guess that what they really want is effect of "power pad" that is rich and distorted, but glues chorus together and makes it feel energetic and more agressive. I loo at it more like synth pad or effect than guitar part. One guitar sound that amuses me somehow is this sound I hear in sections of some pop tunes - there might even be just strummy acoustic guitars until the chorus and then in the chorus this huge wall of distortion with no dynamics whatsoever is laid behind more or less similar vocals - not metal style screaming over the din.
That distorted power chord sound seems like it has a zillion layers panned everywhere and is compressed and EQed to hell so that the same sort of vocal that sat with the light arrangement can sit on top of what would in reality be a wall of shrieking guitar amps
Ahem... What additional cab? Have I missed something? That sounds a little confuzing to me but somehow good. A new modeling engine?
Better than what we already heard? Audios at least, please!
25 times the distortion as before? I would call that Ultra high mega gain then. HiHi
Thanx Rene for the additional cab.

I have no problem with it - just makes me smile. It creates a certain mood or intensity which is what the producer/artist wants I guess. Not so easy for the average punter with his guitar and an amp sim or two to replicate in a mix.

I'm not sure if I'm privileged with this and if so for what reason. I could only guess.
Best wishes, FRitz

Yes,
the price is easily overlooked in this scenario. When I compare GTR mp3s (dongle), GR2 demo, AT2 mp3s (dongle) and the Xmas amp: It's easy to see where my money will NOT flow!
Best wishes, FRitz

What do you mean ?
25 different distortions or what ?
Why 25 and not for example 24 or 26 ?

Hi Rene and everybody in this thread. Happy new year.
I finally checked Rene's present and all I can say is that this thing is great. Can't wait for the full version.
Xamp works flawlessly in Tracktion, no problems at all and very reasonable CPU consumption. As others noted before you can sculpt a huge variety of tones out of this using just an EQ as a post effect.
If I have to criticize it I'd mention two things:
a) a bit muddy on the low end (easily fixed with a high-pass)
b) this is my obsession with all ampsims: if you have low drive settings and you let a note sustain as the signal level decays the sound goes from overdrived to clean (that's natural and desired in some cases) but the way the higher order harmonics disappear at that point is a bit on-off. I hope I am clear with this description. But then again this is supposed to be a heavy amp so this complaint may be addressed with other lower gain amp models. As long as you stay in the overdrive area this thing kick some serious ass.
IIRC you asked for some wah-wah demos. I could make one but my cry-babys pot makes some nasty noises so I'd better forget it (at least before I fix it)
Cheers and keep up with the great work!

this distortion to clean behaviour is often found in heavy amp designs (not always that strong but it's there). It's done that way to give the amp a more "distinct" attack while heavy distorting. So it's not generally a bad thing but often an intentional design choice. Of course, if this would happen with a clean to crunch amp design I would laugh about it.

Totally understandable Fritz, that's why I said "... may be addressed with other lower gain amp models". In fact I tried hard to find something to criticizefritzman wrote:Hi zeoy, zeoy wrote:If I have to criticize it I'd mention two things:

Ok I really wanted to post something, and after quite a few days of tweaking I finally recorded this 9-second sound example... ok I know it's not much but I'm really tired.
