Does Tracktion 2 have any kind of time stretch function for audio edits? :?:

Post

A horrible one. I've used it for 'scratchpad' stretching but I'd never trust it to a critical process.

Mackie and RMS are aware of the timestretching deficiencies. ;)

How do you access the function?

Post

1 - Select the audio clip you want to stretch
2 - In the properties menu below, change the "stretch" menu from the default (no stretch) to "best"
3 - The more polyphonic the source material is (ie. a mixed song) and the more 'full' it is, the worse it will sound.

"Best" out of "crap" still equals "crap", but you'll have to go 3rd party for anything better for the forseeable future.

Thanx for the info. But after reading thru the forums, seems to me that T2 has alot of various problems associated with it. Is this typical of most recording software?

Post

Yes and no, recording software as such really could only deal with changing sampling rates, but since Live came along and Cubase has its timewarping features users have started to demand more of their sequenser then before.

I would search these forums for info on how to integrate audacity as wav editor in Tracktion, that way you can do those things at a far better quality.

It has been a longstanding feature request about better timestretching/pitching etc, something most uf us all hope will come as soon as possible.

So to recap and answer your last question : It was typical, but not anymore.

What's typical of recording software is that people on support forums who have problems report them. You'll note that Cubase, Live, and Sonar do not have a support forum at KvR but rather host their own. If you visited THOSE forums, you'd see problems being posted more often. ;)

Tracktion is one of the more robust and especially stable platforms out there. There will always be people with problems-- the real thing you need to do is try the demo to see if it suits your needs, rather than listening to people either whine about it or praise it.

Hey, I already whined about the timestretch, too. ;) I wasn't responding to Larsby, but rather to flamin-guitar in what I thought was a normal tone (ie. not a sarcastic one) to let him know why it might sometimes seem like there are problems with T.

T is hella stable. ;)

<Betas on Larsby for a while>
