Well, technically it is, and IMO it shouldn't be (as in, hip-hop producers sampling stuff shouldn't be illegal.) But that's me being a bit of a sampling fundamentalist and I can't be arsed having that argument again.re1,am wrote:thanks,
ill go try that out, and Music00 there are various tracks with pianos used, some might be taken from other tracks but thats called remixing but that is the essence of hip-hop. Hip-hop is not piracy.

Try lofi effects like Apari Odaku. If you don't have that, then you can use one of the many bitcrushers out there. izotope vinyl is excellent for amking stuff sound like they're coming off of a record.
I also love PSP vintagewarmer. It can give a nice tape saturation sound when used with some skill.
And I apply them healthily. Not over the top, but not subtle either.

The piano in "Heard 'em Say" is from Natalie Cole's "Someone That I Used to Love". I'm not sure if it's taken from the recording or if it's another musician playing the same line.

uh... i am not 'hating' on hip hop, but it's true that most of the 'lo fi' piano sounds are just stolen from old records
that's common knowledge

Music00 Grow up.
Is it piracy if credit is given where due dingbat? Do you honestly think that those samples aren't cleared genius boy? Do you think those sampled artists don't appreciate another payday for their 35 year old song Biff? Do you have any understanding of how well versed in the history of music us hip hoppers are swifty?
Hip Hop. Piano. No samples. Happy now? (okay its EP, but close enough)
Now go away. Nobody cares about your opinion.
Nothing rouses KVR like Hip Hop and Macs.
Damn, I really tried to stay out of this. Its not constructive. Well, it could've been...

It's a lot easier just to cut 1 note out of a song and use that instead of trying to duplicate the sound with effects. Most people that cut one note out of a song for say a piano sample probably don't clear them and they really shouldn't have to imo. The people that always have problems with copyright infringments are the ones that sample phrases rather than single notes that are played as something completely different. If you want to make hip hop it will involve sampling. If you want to make gangsta rap you can use all synths and just sample your drums off vinyl...If you want to make weird music like myself and call it hip hop you can use anything that makes sound.
Always remember that others may hate you but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them. And then you destroy yourself.

Of course you're entitled to that opinion. I disagree though. Its a sound recording, and as such, someone spent money to produce it. They should, in turn, be compensated for e.g. my use of their sound recording in my song (if I earn money with it, of course). I know I'd want to be compensated if it were my song being sampled...Distorted_Mastermind wrote:It's a lot easier just to cut 1 note out of a song and use that instead of trying to duplicate the sound with effects. That's probably true.Distorted_Mastermind wrote:The people that always have problems with copyright infringments are the ones that sample phrases rather than single notes that are played as something completely different.
Not necessarily. Again, reference my example given above. But don't get me wrong though, I do sample...Distorted_Mastermind wrote:If you want to make hip hop it will involve sampling.
That's an incorrect generalization. NWA used samples. A lot.Distorted_Mastermind wrote:If you want to make gangsta rap you can use all synths and just sample your drums off vinyl...
The only limitations are the ones artificially superimposed. I use all sorts of sound sources. I don't consider my sampled beats hip hop and my synth beats gangster rap.Distorted_Mastermind wrote:If you want to make weird music like myself and call it hip hop you can use anything that makes sound.
