you should check into the "studio projects" line of mics as well... they're impressive for the money.

i just bought a pair of C4's and im about as happy as i could ever be with these mics. im going to use them on guitar cabs for my current project. you can use one in cardoid mode and then place another out in the room in omni mode and get a nice close mic and airy room sound to blend.

C4's are around $300 a pair, aren't they (I see MSRP at $520)? That's a bit out of the OP's price range.

Their other mics do look nice though, especially the B3.

Trying to change the world by posting on a forum is like crying on the Sun to put it out.

Pretty good deal indeed.

If it were me, I'd buy two pairs -- that would give you a stereo pair of small and large diaphragm condensers each. I already have a foursome of the 603's and while they're not super well matched level-wise, they have nice, consistent, natural tone and handle high SPL quite well. At $300 for a set of four (last year from 8th street), I couldn't resist. I do use all four quite often in live situations (a pair for room sound, and a pair for drum overheads).

Are the large diaphragm mics the same ones that Marshall was reselling? If so, then they're supposed to be quite good for the money. I believe there was even an after-market kit to upgrade them with a tube preamp for not much $$.
