Heh, we were, until I decided to take a breath and check a few other threads. ;)

Now I'm off to home and then to "Tasteless Comedy" night at Yuk-Yuk's comedy club. Might sneak in a forum visit before I step out the door. :D

This writing at the same time thing is adding an "edited 1 time" at the bottom of all my posts because I almost always press "submit" before realizing that I had a bit more to say or a different way of saying it!

The main difference is it doesn't have that "scratchy" sound if you see what I mean.

Yes, but you confuse an amp sim with a multi fx with cab.
To me it does not sound like a amp. Sorry... :?

That is not the goal I think.
Listen to this please

not good but has amp caracter, if you hear what I mean.

Anyway, high gain is more fun,
but something like this:

would also be a big challenge. ;)

To me it sounds like an amp, particularly the edgy and drive settings.

You don't play the guitar though, right?

:hihi:

Btw, the reason why quite some people are still using Marshalls for their high gain tones seems to be that they are working exceptionally well with the mentioned "helpers". You can put almost every halfway proper drive/boost pedal in front of them and the sound will be fine (just listen to Tom Morello...).

Fair enough. SRV and his Bassmans wouldn't sound the same without the Tube Screamer. <shrug> ;) No shame in whatever signal path it all takes, as long as the end result works. With a soft sim you'd ideally either have the pedal simmed as well, use a real pedal, or simply use the benefit of software vs. hardware in order to achieve the same end goal.

With an amp as clean as a Bassman, the pedal itself, will surely be featured. I believe the idea in this instance, is to start as clean as it gets, and dirty it up, yeah?

Hi guys, I am on a dial-up for now so can't listen nor upload anything. So cant comment what Rene did to my clips.
However I want to note that you can't judge the sound of the raw clips since almost all guitars sound terrible when recorded DI.
The guitar I used here is a Tokai Vintage AST56 which is a replica of a vintage Strat (SRV himself used Tokais at some period). First time I (and many other musicians) heard this guitar through a good tube amp (Plexi) our jaws dropped to the floor.
Anyways. I ll try to take the same clips and see what I can do with them using ampsims or will play the same thing with the same guitar through my Bravo.

PS1 @Rene: didn't expect to make the clips sound the same as the THD amps. Just in the same ballpark.
PS2 @Fritz: thanx about the clarification about what was terrible or worse
PS3 @everybody: I agree that in clean tones the guitar and the guitarist play a major role but don't underestimate the contribution of the amp. Had various guitars that I considered lifeless and changed my mind when I heard them through some old Marshall monsters
If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain

All these factors play a vital role and if anybody doesn't know what to get from which factor it's a lost guessing game. This is true for all kind of sounds, also with the most heavy overdriven tones. This surely needs some experience and/or experiments with these factors. If you don't have a lot of experience you will need a lot of experiments to get what you want. This is what we see here obviously. But hey, we've got time.

All the best, FRitz
