I can play all of 'em BUT the one he asked me to play.

I can whip off those Machine Head ones too... so why dont you do the Nevermore riff (HiGain2)?

Here is my 'tone': http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=118619

Its the best I could do with a POD, and its not as good as any of those clips.

Sweet.... send him a left and a right channel so he doesnt have to do that lame delay trick to try to make it sound stereo.

Come on, I'm a guitarist, not a great one, but I've played enough to know that. I was just asking here because I read about this technique on another thread (related to POD). So I was just talking of ADDING single note-riff to "support" the traditionnal takes of the main riff, not splitting chords in different takes.
As to lowering the gain when layering, I know that already. It's good for clarity, but on the other side it doesn't do the trick for thickness. And here is the goal : thickness and clarity.

In the meanwhile you can listen this strange cut.

The first part was great... but was it your sim or HiGain2?

2nd part had too much flange/phaser.

HiGain2 was HiGain2,
than I added the Matt take played by Dushan through my amp.

Tommorrow you can hear the HiGain2 played through my amp. ;)

Its impossible to waste your time on the interwebs.

I will say MW has certainly been available to run his sim thru the dirt and shit on this forum, I think he has gotten a fairly good grasp on what he was going for. BUt also to expect this Amp sim to similate EVERY sound is just not possible and I think he probably should go ahead and release it.

And Prizo it sounds like you are into the heavy stuff, I just uploaded my bands info onto soundclick, it is also in my web link now, but in case it is not go here and check out my stuff. http://www.soundclick.com/worldofshit

IT is the 5150 and I'm not saying this is a great example of what the amp sounds like casue I am actually not totally happy with what I got this time,(Last demo it was guitar into the 5150) This time I tried to clean it up a bit,,,blablbl; who cares check it out if you like.,
link to my Asspace page(Myspace) This has become a necessary evil http://www.myspace.com/worldofshit1

Prizo-- Your tone, once it was layered, was pretty damn good. I just tried listening to it back-to-back with the clips you showed. I admit, the clips you posted have a bit more 'immediacy' than the ones with the sim, but I can't help suspecting that has more to do with the overall "sheen" that comes from good ears, a mix engineer, and a person to master the song.

A few other things that could have been done (maybe you did, I didn't go back to re-read the thread, though now I remember the riffs from the song you posted!) would be to disable cab, verb, delay, and run through a cab impulse and/or room impulse instead.

Or, to put it a different way: I find that once your guitars were layered (just like the layered ones in the clips you shared), that's when punishment was delivered. The actual necessary gain structure is there, and I think that a bit more dedication to choosing the right cabs/impulses, or whatever, would have yielded the same or similar results as the 'commercial' clips.

There's a LOT to be said for production technique, which I still maintain. Pretty good tone with the POD there, though... which amp sims did you layer?
