The second one sounds just a tiny bit crisper than the first- not that it matters much... the first sounds quite good. Sure would love to hear the clean clip that I sent you run through something, Rene. :)

Greeeeeeeaaaat... I even find Rene's version of the riff to have tighter PMs (well I know it could be due to gain amount, playing technique etc...). More importantly, I think the differences between the real/sim versions are negligeable from a "in the mix" point of view... I mean the character is here.

edit : forgot to mention one thing though : it's time to release the punisher.

Killvehicle, what input device(s) did you use (D.I. box, Hi-Z ins, converters, etc.)?
Presonus Eureka for D.I into Emu 1820m.

To my surprise, under Logic/PC there's no Sound coming out of it at all, regardless of how much I'm fiddling with parameters. I also loaded it via EnergyFX (didn't try eXT in standalone mode), still no sound.

Any ideas?
Yes, you have to copy the COMPETE folder from your zip.
Also read the merry christmas.txt !!! ;)
Install:

Simply unpack the included folder into your
VSTpluginfolder, that all.
(You NEED the whole folder for the plugin to work.)
Have fun !

Lunch MOney[/quote]In any case, using the word "thick" again instead of just saying "hi gain", there's no way that Suffocate's "Pierced from the Inside" or "Deceit" were 10 or 20 times "thicker" than SOAD's "BYOB" overall. They're half as thick, at best. Suffocate's distortion is too fizzy to really slam you against a wall.
I was thinkihjn more about he Pierced From within type stuff, the track Deceit, which is there newer stuff, has a horrible sound all together, BUt I can tell you that all that was never any amp sims.

Thanks for the kind words, been doing this heavy music shit for a long time.

Weird, I thought I did that. Now it's working. Nice highgain sound I must say. Not all that great due to less than ideal input conditions right now though, but that's a fault on my part.

Killvehicle, thanks for the info. Sounds like a pretty good solution.

Not really highgain, to get the distortion right,
for the latest mp3's, I needed 40-50 times the drive of XmasTube... :-o

btw. the drive knob for highgain2R2.mp3 was at 1 o'clock. :hihi:

Ok, it's not highgain. Especially in the higher registers. But it's sounding really tight for low end chord stuff. Pretty amazing.
And there's less noise than in, say, Boogex as well.

So have we got a contest to see who can get the closest to Rene's last clip using other means? :)

Geeeeeezzzasss ! You definitely have to release it ! ...no, wait, I'm broke right now

Quite impressive. Slightly different compared to the second one, but other production trickery could bring it more into that "crispy" realm. The palm mutes in Soundspectral were, as mentioned, better!

When I listen to them back to back a few times, I can't even decide which I prefer. The second part would sound better "alone" like in an intro or a "breakdown" kind of situation, but the first part to me would be more usable in the mix. Both are quite impressive, though.

Cheul-- taste is so funny. I agree that there's more "crunch" in the newer stuff, but I listened to some of "Steal This Album" and I found the "Hypnotize/Mezmerize" tone more powerful. I kept thinking of the newer tone as more impressive, even though it might have had less gain!

KV-- the Suffocate guitar tone was definitely good, even on "Deceit", IMO.

Rene-- don't give in to the pressure to release until it's really ready! Smells like you're getting pretty close, though.

Rene...now this example got my attention. This is sounding quite good to my ears. Well done, indeed.

The original has a room added to it.
I did'nt bother to recreate that same room.

Thats NOT my goal. ;)

Well, the new stuff IS more impressive. But the trade-off is that it's less warm I find than Steal this Album (listen to Ego Brain, Thetawaves...). And I kind of liked that warmth of that tone, let's say I like my SOAD warm as I already know they are impressive lol.

hey, I agree, was just... ok I was pressuring lol. But Rene, tell us what is left to do on your sim. It's interesting to know what you're working on/fine tuning currently. (I like the "behind the scenes" stuff you post, such as the disto engine, etc...)
