most electronic genres stopped at 160bpm because that was the maximum tempo that most workstations/hardware sequencers went at the time.nuffink wrote:Jungle and early d'n b were all at about 160 but with a half time feel that had people languidly grooving along. Then the white boys decided that running on the spot at 160bpm was a laff and you know the rest.
You reckon? The Chase wrote:most electronic genres stopped at 160bpm because that was the maximum tempo that most workstations/hardware sequencers went at the time.nuffink wrote:Jungle and early d'n b were all at about 160 but with a half time feel that had people languidly grooving along. Excuse me to leave the party so crudely, but it's starting to smell like (brain)farts in here. The Chase wrote:most electronic genres stopped at 160bpm because that was the maximum tempo that most workstations/hardware sequencers went at the time.
Then your window to DnB is narrow because the things that make late DnB of the last 3-4 years the greatest (besides the rised bar in production) is the lack of repetition . I cant listen to much of my fav dnb from 1998-99 anymore because its so repetitive. The scene is not dead, it's bigger than ever, actually.Kingston wrote:But then, I hate tarnce, people who like tarnce and the likes with a vengeance so excuse me.
It was really the repetitiveness that killed d'n'b. Or possibly ex-tarnce producers who turned to d'n'b.
Now it's all just boom-khack X 5000 with overhyped speeds and no new ideas. One act doesn't quite count (referring to Pendulum here) if the actual scene is dead. Sorry to step so brutely on so many fanboys toes. About d'n'b and america, there's about a 5 year delay on any new developments, has always been, so that would explain why some think the last 3 years have been great. Sorry the slight thread hijack too.

well it should be drum'n'tarnce then, as the good old scene did die. Raised bar in production? where were you in 97, for example? Oh wait, you were in america. The Chase wrote:Theres a difference between thinking "Oh this genre has died" and "Oh this genre has evolved into something I dont like". Yes the scene has grown. Thanks to what country copying what? They're now even making jokes of the d'n'b scenesters like they do of tarnce, guess why. Oh dear.
[/quote]Again, the scene didnt die, it evolved. With out musical evolution, there wouldnt be music in the first place.Kingston wrote:well it should be drum'n'tarnce then, as the good old scene did die.
