Tip: How to split clips easy

Splitting clips is one of the things I think we all do alot in Tracktion. So I thought, how to make it even more simple than using the keycommand Shift+7...

I think most Tracktion users have a scrollmouse since the workflow som much benefits from this. So what you do is simply assigning the scrollbutton to Shift+7, by using your mousesoftware, and then you can split clips in a click.

You can then for example doubleclick an audioclip and, by holding the button down and moving the cursor, scrub it and then just click the scrollbutton wherever you want to split the clip. I find this so much easier and faster than using the keyboard!

Maybe it´s just me being too stupid not to think of this before but someone might find this one useful..

(i only ask cos on PC i just click to set the cursor and hit the / key to split clips ... my non-existent mouse doesnt have a scrollwheel)

Hehe, somehow I just find it so much easier using mouse only splitting clips. Guess it´s just a silly thing being a former Cubase user.

You use Tracktion without a mouse??? Then you must use a midicontroller!? I find the mousescrolling an essential part of the Tracktion experience...

Shift + 7? What the...

Great tip, but why do you have to Shift + 7? Is that the slash key on an international keyboard? For North American English keyboards, it's a single keypress with no shift.

Still an excellent tip, though. I don't use the "press scrollwheel" function for anything else right now, so this tip is a winner. I split clips a lot, and for me, mousing in Tracktion is also a pretty vital part of my workflow. Mind you, I only just got a MIDI controller now, so we'll see.

Ok now I see...Here in Sweden you actually have to press Shift+7 to get the slash key. Personally I have reassigned this keycombination to a single one in Tracktion for that reason, but wanted to write it as clear as possible here for everyone still using the standard configuration...but shame on me...

Don´t know about other mousesoftware but with my Microsoft optical mouse I can assign different keycommands to the buttons depending on which program I use, so it won´t interfere if you use the scrollbutton for something else in a webbrowser for example.

Bah, I don't have special "mouse" software installed and I can't seem to find a way to even assign my mouse-wheel to do a keystroke globally, never mind in a particular program.

I know I've done it before, on this or another computer, but now all I see are very generic options from Control Panel.

Off to Google mouse freeware....

Let us know what you find. My Microsoft optical came with no software, so I only have generic options in the mouse settings.

I use the number pad slash. (Yes, Shift+7 is slash on some kbd layouts)

If you use a Microsoft mouse you should be able to use this one;IntelliMouse 5.2

I have used a similiar program for Logitech too. I think they all are free for download at their repective sites..

I couldn't find anything non-proprietary, but even without an MS mouse or Logitech mouse, you might be able to use their software. Hard to say. I'd have to give it a go.
