and it's AWESOME!! 8)

incredible sounds...thick, smooth, dense

i love  this plugin

I've had a couple of days to play with it now and agree, very smooth was my first thought on the sound, too. None of that vocodery raspiness and narrow-band, shrill feedback that plagues a lot of software phasers.

I've been working it in to a couple of tracks, but I'm starting to realize that I seem to prefer phasers in the background, sort of buried in the miasma.

So bearing in mind that I'm not a guitarist, what do people usually do with phasers? I like it on drums, mind you, especially with automating the Sweep CC into a really slow ramp envelope instead of the LFOs.

Post

hard to answer that, because i've always been a 'phasor guy' myself. on drums, bass, guitar (obviously) and even vocals. just to thicken them up and get that shimmery, phasory sound

I have always been in love with phasors. I have yet to get a AD plug becuase I can't download a demo and they are just out of reach of my impulse purchase threshhold.

I want the delay, the pitchshifter and the phasor.

Spot on. Phase 2's feedback envelops the sound rather than sitting on top of it. Really impressed.

man, a funky 2006 lies ahead.

HI

I love a phaser on horns - with delay and a fierce swept filter or EQ for instant Lee Perry style DUB.

Love it on acoustic piano as well.

Flipper.

Phaser on brass? I've just bought this bad boy, and I have a trombone part to record 8)

HI

I tend to use this type of effect in an OTT way - for subtle stuff it might not be to everyones liking? - or feel right - but then again, DUB can be about outlandish use of FX.

I generally apply a slow phase 'rate' on most stuff, to get a kinda evolving phase to go through it's cycle perhaps every 4-8 bars.

Flipper.

add delay with it and use it on anything, light effects, little fader action whatever.
Man that Filter is pretty bad ass too. These actually sound great!

I decided to give some suggestions a try. I've discovered that one of the benefits of a smooth phaser is that you can use it for somewhat subtle depth/texture effects. Here's an example of what I tried out:

Started with two cutup horn loops.

Added phaser.

Added a bit of stereo delay.

I tend to approach modulation effects a bit more aggressively, but I like the way this one sounds with a bit of restraint shown.
