i've got a chance to work with another fellow tracktioneer in my immediate area, on an audio recording. hes on a mac, im on a pc. we both use tracktion. im going to do the capture, he's going to do the mixdown...common stuff.
but i need to know one thing.
can the edit and the files that i create on my pc, via tracktion, be used on his mac, with the mac version of tracktion?

I'm pretty sure you just need to be using the same version of Tracktion with the same plugins (if you use any). I'd use either WAV or AIFF files, which seem to work well across platforms. Simple enough to test it with a small project in advance! I'm on a Mac using Tracktion 2. If you want, you could ZIP and send me a small 10 second project with a few tracks in it, and I'll let you know if it opens okay. I could even send back an MP3 to see if it worked as you thought. Let me know if you want to try it.

I archived a project from my PC and brought it over to my Mac with no problems whatsoever. I would assume it would work the same going the other way.
The only problem I can think of would be if your bit depth and sample rates didn't match up. I'm not sure what would happen if you brought 24 bit 192 khz samples into a system that could only handle 16 bit 48 khz. Maybe tracktion would downsample - not sure.

will a mac external hdd accept data from an xp pc? and will it then work properly on a mac?
if i don't track this performance on the pc, he'll just do it on the mac.. no transfers. but it looks more like ill be tracking it onto the pc. so we will have to tranfer the files somehow.

The firewire drive should be fine. If it's formatted as a "Mac" drive, you may not be able to read it on your PC, though, unless you have 3rd party software to access a Mac formatted volume. A Mac will read a PC formatted volume.
