Okay, so why then does it matter what speakers he is using?
BTW, on what speakers are you working on, MW? This is such a crucial part of the work chain, I hope you have decent ones...

The fact that you don't like my combo is of no importance to me, believe me, MY point was that, THAT was the real amp without any production values, like the legacy, and you called the legacy a not convincing emulation, and shitty sound. Maybe the amp sucks like my 5150 combo, so what, it is what it sounds like right??
Hm,

you didn't read very well so you simply misunderstood me. But maybe you even wanted that and needed to piss on somebody with some lies you're putting in somebodies elses mouth. Dunno. Really strange.
My last attempt to try to help you to understand this: No, this particular mp3 I was commenting on doesn't sound like the Carvin Legacy combo. It does sound like a poor recording of that amp.
Killvehicle wrote:And of course Drum samplers with RAW samples are great, maybe you didn't catch the sarcasm..
Maybe you should say goodbye to your misconception that you're the only one who is able to use subtle sarcasm? :hihi:
Killvehicle wrote:And your dumb comments about not having my sound, you are ridiculous, It seems you want the sound polished already, which means when this thing gets released we all are using finished sounds, which equals us all having the same sound, get it? JUst like drum samples, we should do the final tweaking
You know what seems to me? That you love your dirty little prejudices and therefor you don't read carefully and therfor don't want to understand what some people say. I already posted my opinions about these things extensively on KvR in various threads so no need here for me to paraphraze myself. 8)

Have a nice day, FRitz
haha Yeah everything you said man,, YOU are the word salad man.. Keep up all your foolishness, My dirty little prejudices?? hhah OK....

ANd I dont read too well, ANother one where it really applies to yourself,, but who cares man,, OH but lest I forget my emoticons, becasue I guess THIS is where I misunderstand people,, maybe I should pay more attention to the mighty emoticon and its emotions it displays of the writer., HEre is one you like  :idiot: :ud: :clown: :dog: wait here is your red strat :band:

Because...

And MW, if I got it right, is mostly creating his amp models from MP3 that various people send him. So he must be listening, on his speakers, how such an amp sounds, and tries to re-create this sound via his sim engine.

If he has crappy speakers, then he won't be able to emulate the sounds with accuracy.

That's what happenend when I first listenend to the 5150 MP3 demo on my laptop, I thought "whoa, it sounds great and so close!". Then I listened to it again on good speakers, and didn't like at all the character of his 5150 sound.

Can't be more clear than that, sorry

Of course, maybe he's doing someting totally different, who knows? :?:

Melodioso wrote:But nobody serious will ever record a commercial album, or play live gigs with [GR2] (apart for special FX sounds maybe?). Maybe AT2 will be different, maybe not...
You realize that there have already been people using AT1 (which sounds worse than GR2) in live situations, and there have been recordings done with SansAmp (a still-great emulator), POD, and Amp Farm since way back, right?

Before you ask me to name any examples, don't bother. When I've read interviews and the guy says, "We were doing a scratch track with POD, and ended up keeping it because it was ultimately better than the real amp we tried!" (regardless of whether he meant the pure tone or just the vibe) I don't file away the artist's and album's name for future retrieval, I simply say, "Neat, I guess these things ARE used by professional engineers and musicians." Since I've had that reaction several times ever since the SansAmp original came out, I just take it as common knowledge that these units ARE in fact used for a lot of stuff.

Who was it... admittedly from the Line 6 site, so it's going to be 'biased'/'coloured' (but keeping in mind that artists' testimonies can't be used without approval and so forth), but Trent Reznor and Ben Moody are using the Vetta II in live shows. That's just a POD stuck into a cab.

Have I heard anybody using GR2 in particular? Well, not yet, but it's a new product. I'm extending the fact that people have used Amp Farm (from the plug-in world) and POD (in studio and live) as examples showing that it's conceivable there are people already using GR2 in studios and considering GR2 for live use.

I don't know why so many non-pros think that pros are only about the 'real' amp. Of course it's more common for a producer/musician to want a real amp, I'm not doubting that. But they're also not simply dismissing other options because it's not "real".

FYI : Pat Metheny was using GR1 with PMG on the TWU tour.

LM, you are trully becoming the pope of "Ampsim" church, preaching about "Ampsims can do it man" in every other post. :hihi:
Guy was just saying that no one would use GR2 live, just that. I would not use GR2 live or anywhere else myself, but would use Line 6 stuff. :)
Btw, most of people I have noticed that are using Line 6 stuff for recording final tracks are doing experimental and unusual stuff, like Reznor or Meshuggah. On the other side I have read a lot of interviews (Garbage come first on my mind) about people trying POD, liking the sound initially but later going back to real amps.
It is true that if you will process the shit out of guitar tracks, then, why would you need "realistic" simulation anyway? :P

Post

Yeah, I realize I sound like a broken record, but the problem is that people continue to make false assumptions and speak opinion as if it's fact. I just can't help myself. ;)

How could I argue with, "I'd never want to use GR2 live." ? I can't. But I CAN argue that other people will certainly find it useful. Keef with AT1, and now apparently Pat Metheny with GR1. And those are just 2 examples out of countless. I'm betting that each and every one of us has heard songs with either Amp Farm, SansAmp, or POD tones, and didn't even know it. The tools don't make the music.

I personally wouldn't use GR2 live, either, but not because of the tone (I thought GR1 was pretty good already!). Rather, I have little faith that I wouldn't spill a beer on the computer and gack it all up, ruining the show in one fell swoop. :D Or worse, that for whatever reason I'd start getting pops and crackles. :hihi:

If I was a touring musician in a small band and on a tight budget, I'd seriously consider having something like AT2 or GR2 around in the van in case my amp broke down at a bad time. It would probably be a hell of a lot better in that situation than using the [dread] house amp (if they even have one) or hoping someone in one of the other bands will let you borrow theres for your set, etc. Plus it's something you could build up a certain comfort level with unlike just borrowing someone's amp. So yeah, I wouldn't say never either...
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Try that with a tube amp! With 500V in your beer then you will get more than a few pops and crackles. :-o :hihi:  8)

GR2 can't kill me at a poorly-wired venue, either. ;) Not that I'm a gigging guitarist or anything. :scared:

I hope all you practicing gigging musicians have your handy outlet-checkers with you!

(I meant that in an off-topic way... of course I don't really think anyone should switch to GR2 or any other plug-in just to avoid death by high-voltage, though I can think of worse reasons to switch! :hihi:)
