Ha!

In the UK you can forget about even trying those things! I remember the first 'proper' gig I played (maybe 12 years ago), plugging my safety-tester into the wall and the AE shouting "NOOOOOOOO!" as I shorted the entire place.

Sadly (in the UK) most 'serious' small venues are nothing but pub back-rooms or tiny clubs and thus have shitty, old wiring.

Since I have (and could afford to have) had my last two houses rewired, I'm not entirely certain why UK clubs and pubs take the point of view that modern wiring is some kin of luxury...

Anyway.

Heh! I didn't know that!!!

GuitarNuts.com has a nifty and simple mod. Basically you put a BIG FAT capacitor inline between your volume and ground. Then if you're at a venue with reversed wiring, you will feel a tingling on your strings as the capacitor limits currency. Let go of your guitar! With enough voltage, the capacitor will basically explode and break the circuit, so you'll likely be safe.

greg, my boogie and my plexi sometimes screwed me over big time live because unlike with solidstate amps, those tubes need a lot of power. Thus the transformers draw more juice...with tube amps I could hear the high end crap right out. Remember my stance on going with a hy-brid (which is my rig) tube pre, solidstate power amp?...just for that very reason....also remember the "eletist tube guys" attacked me for that...because I dared to say that more of the tube sound comes from the pre, not power amp...this coming from a former "tube eletist guy" myself...but I've seen the light...but still not enough to use anything live that relies on bringing a computer...not because of noise though, or even latency, but because of crap that could happen that would shutdown my pc mid performance (bsod, errors...ect) :)

There's the same problem in the US. That's why, back when I was gigging, we'd tap the main 220v service coming in instead of relying on the club's wiring  . Always have an electrician in your band...

As to gigging live with GR2, Dweezil Zappa's doing a solo GR2 show Sunday night at NAMM, and David Gilmour's using GR2 in a set that the NI All Stars are doing on Saturday. I'll have to see if I can get a recording from somebody...

Of course you can just go wireless at your gigs and not worry about it! :D

True enough, Jeff. :D I remember the big uproar when wireless technology first came out. People were dead against anything that might rob them of tone. Also, reliability was spotty.

Hey, same arguments against computer-based amp sims, come to think of it. ;)

Imo wireless take away the benefits I get from active electronics in my guitar...

cheul wrote:Now that Rene wants to make the point that his distortion engine is versatile (maybe the idea to ask for amp names wasn't that great, asking only audio clips to describe the top 5 tones would have been better, I guess you've been seduced by the marketing aspect here, Rene), some people blame him for not actually owning those particular amps, and that he won't be able to accurately model those. And bam ! we're back where it began : the old NI, IKMultimedia way of thinking... isn't breaking the mould the very purpose of Rene's work ?
No marketing aspect here, but I got overexited by the possibilities that the new engine is offering.

The amp names will not be displayed anyway.

That's what happenend when I first listenend to the 5150 MP3 demo on my laptop, I thought "whoa, it sounds great and so close!". Then I listened to it again on good speakers, and didn't like at all the character of his 5150 sound.
My speakers are very fine. ;)
I posted several files of the 5150,
some where made, as I told, at 5am at low volume,
sure they cant sound great.
But I needed some impressions and did'nt wanted to wait one day just for that.

Really? Tell us a little about your speakers.

Can we see some evidence maybe? A photo with a handwritten message perhaps?

Check my (posted) picture of the Selmer amp for an idea...
