Keeping in mind that I'm not a Mackie representative, this was my understanding:

There WAS a continuous upgrade path offered. Unfortunately the international implementation was the shits, but forgetting that for a moment:

T1 -> T2 Boxed -> T3

It's a natural and the normal path one would expect. Mackie didn't even really WANT to release a download version, and I'm willing to bet there were arguments. Cool heads prevailed for the most part, though, and T1 loyalty was rewarded by offering them the option:

T1 -> T2 download, after which only boxed will be available.

Now, I don't THINK that you'd have to pay absolute full price for T3 as a previous customer, but it'd still be a paid retail box upgrade.

I'm pretty sure the DEMO and the full download version are the same. Except one is unlocked. So I doubt it has the effects. Could be wrong tho I guess.

Not every downloadable version of Tracktion is an upgrade from free version. I get one with Mackie Onyx - i payed 2000 Euros for the system, then 20$ for upgrade just to know that week later i could get this update free. I didnt have an option to buy full-boxed version of Tracktion2 that time. So some of us payed some money

But there are obviously two different download versions, depending on what is shown on your Mackie page...

From my perspective, the hardcore of Tracktion users ( T1 onwards ) are now getting shafted by Mackie. I don't want ( and can not afford to buy) the boxed version: in fact, in waiting for it to ever turn up* I have downloaded the free VSTs and bought CM 89 ( to get BFD as a replacement for RMIV ) so now have no use for the third party stuff. I am thoroughly pissed off with this approach. T3 is going to have to be something very special to make me consider handing over any money. Way to go Mackie, you're doing a fine job of customer relations.

*Mackie have not been emailing me about updates since T2 came out, and I only found out the boxed version was even available in the UK by searching.

This version has just had too many error reading file messages and it's crashed.
at least 5 projects with different aiff/wavs missing..I aint got time for this shit.
I'm going back to the previous version...booooo

What do you mean before? As in above the other tracks?

Yes. If Track 1 is your instrument with an Aux Send on it and Track 2 is a return track with Aux Return on it (and, say, Voxengo PristineSpace on it), you get a noticeable delay before the wet signal comes in.

However... if you drag the return track to the top so that it's Track 1, PDC kicks in and you get no latency in the wet signal.

I remember IIRs or pHz talking about this a while back and I didn't really get it.

And I didnt know about the track moving trick because I usually dont use latency inducing plugs as sends. But its good to know!!

Tracktion that comes with hardware as a bundle surely has its own literature the same way ANY OTHER sequencer (ie. the Sonar LE that came with my PCR-M50) would have... no? I admit, not owning any hardware that came with a Tracktion license, I have no idea.

You know - with other hardware you get Cubase LE or Sonar Le or others. In Mackie you get full version of tracktion. And you download upgrade to full version of T2 (or getting now the hardware with T2).
BUT - we dont know how mackie will go. If i will be cutted off - im changing host. Tracktion interface and a hole bunch of mackie equipment makes me belive, that Tracktion will be my host for a long time. But it can go not so optimistic

If that is true, and considering Mackie refusal to give any form of rebate to users outside the USA, it would mean, starting at version 3, no upgrade path whatsoever for international users, they would have to pay full price on each and every new release.

If confirmed it would bring the cost of ownership and maintaining a Tracktion license higher than any other sequencer on the market today (only for second class citizens, of course

).

Please, Mackie representative, confirm because if true, I will promtly try to sell my license to a US citizen.
