Let's say you render a track called "Moog Solo", the new track would be called "REND: Moog Solo", instead of "track 12", for example.
I just thought of it now while working on a song, I'm realizing that it would be a time-saver...

that's the way it supposed to work. that's one of the amaturish things about tracktion. you have to rename the region, and then you have to do several steps to rename the actual audio file. if I look at my audio files for my tracktion sessions most of them have garbage random names. frustrating.

I hardly equate "frustrating" with "amateur"... were that the case, most of the professional apps would by extension be amateur apps after all.
But, frustrating it is. I'm not sure if you and I are "working around" the inconvenience in the same way, though. What do you mean by renaming the region? I didn't know regions could be named!
Non-rendering filenames can be set to your own system, so for non-renders that's within your control.
For rendered clips that you want to keep, you just "view source info" for the clip, press the "..." to rename the file, and you're done. You'll automatically be given the option to rename the clip to match the filename.
It's a lot of work to backtrack and do. But if you do it immediately after a render as a matter of habit, or even just do it with renders that you know you're going to "keep" because you've been working with them for a few days, it's not all THAT bad.
HOWEVER,
Describing those techniques does NOT negate the fact that I would much much much prefer the method suggested by jplanet.

Guys, did anyone actually try this?
When you render a track you get a dialogue box up that asks you to provide a file name. It defaults to the name of the edit, but you can provide whatever you want as a name.
It doesn't default to the track name.
{EDIT]
I'm talking bollocks, it's exports that do that, not rendered tracks. I always get them confused.
