mp3 export and dithering

If I use the new export to mp3 option to export a 24bit clip straight to mp3, should I be dithering? The way I've been exporting to mp3 was exporting to 16-bit with dithering and then converting to mp3.

i would of thought that dithering was irrelavent when converting to a lossy format such as mp3.
