FR - Core assignment

Since more and more dual processor/core machines are being used it would be nice if Tracktion could allow us to assign at the least VST(i) processes to different cores.

This would help in distributing the cpu loads and maybe...just MAYBE not run out of processing power quite so soon, which happens when you
stuff all of your projects workload onto one processor and basically let the other one idle.

Case in point:



Note how high the usage is on Core 1 compared to Core 2.
The spikes on Core 2 are from my system grabbing the screenshot for this image. The low baseline on 2 and the high line on 1 is with Tracktion playing
a 4 track project with 4 vsti, 4 vst effects and 3 vst plugs in the output chain.

energyXT is currently adding this feature. VST assignment right now. And it
seems it would be REAL handy to have in T2.

I totally agree. It's a big bummer to look at all that potential processor power just sitting there doing nothing.

you should be able to set processor "Affinity" within windows XP, Im not sure how it might work as I don't have a Dual Core, nor Dual Processor. Check out your Taskmanager, and enable some of the extra collums and see where your processes are running!!

Problem there is affinity is limited to processes and programs.

Would much rather see an elegant in app handling of this so that the core usage could be balanced more accurately.

Actually it would not do anything for in app usage. Since the app is a single process as far as the OS is concerned as are the dlls (plugins) which it is hosting thru its sdk.
