2.1 and CPU Load?

Just a quick note... I had backed out of the last release due to some performance issues with video and audio. While I don't seem to have any issues with audio the video is really a dog and a lazy dog at that. I'm thinking I might have to step back a version again.

Sorry! Correction. My previous post should read .. Em, Underbiteman, yes, I do have Cool'n'Quiet actually. Is there something I should know?

Well Cool'n'Quiet changes processor speed dynamically depending on cpu load, which is consistent with your cpu meter dancing up and down. I would try turning it off and see how much cpu is being used when the cpu clock cycle is kept constant.

Yeah, it's a bit of a misnomer. What they meant was: Cool 'n SLOW. But some marketing peeps objected. Best to keep it off and run it Hot 'n Fast!

Underbiteman, you're a genius! Changed the power management system (ie switched off CnQ) and things are dandy again. Thank you!
Presumably T 2.1 is that bit more demanding and so that's why it wasn't apparent before. (?)
Mandolarian - Hot n Fast it is. But I feel rather misled here! One wants a DAW to be quiet but we seem to be saying that CnQ can't keep pace with the demands of audio processing. Don't remember that on the box!

It still seems a little more cpu intensive across the board for me (with RTPM and ASIO direct off)...but the GUI is smoother.

I rarely had Windows freeze up until I installed Cool'n'Quiet.
I didn't troubleshoot it but as soon as I uninstalled it all problems went away.

Yes! I knew my nerdiness would come in handy one day.
As far as C'n'Q, I guess I'm in the minority cuz I'm a fan of it. It keeps my temp controlled cpu fan quiet when I'm doing everyday computer tasks or even very simple recording.

I think you guys are totally wrong about Cool n Quiet - at least on the AMD64 desktop platform (is it available for intel?).
CnQ just throttles the fan speed up/down depending on the heat levels detected in the CPU. The actual CPU speed isn't changed whatsoever.

No, it doesn't. Cool n Quiet varies the operating frequency and voltage of the CPU depending on the load, up to 30 times a second.
The processor comes fitted with a thermally controlled fan which lowers the fan speed (and so the noise) when a lower temperature is detected, and increases it when a higher temperature is detected. So the fan speed change is just a knock on effect of what Cool n Quiet actually does, which is modify the processor frequency and voltage.
AMD have a utility called WCPUCLK which tells you what speed it's clocking at, if XP idles at 800mhz with no programs open, you're apparently using C&Q successfully.

I stand corrected.
However it appears only fan speed is throttled on my system - if you don't install the AMD cpu driver it doesn't appear to throttle cpu speed/voltage.

I too am having issues with the latest update. Having serious issues with even two instances of Miroslav.
Went back to some recordings done a day previous to the download and T2 2.1 is not able to play multiple instances and struggles to even freeze the tracks. I need to find a cure or will be forced to rollback. Any suggestions?
