SonicState have a news post up on the StompIO with a video of it in action presumably show casing AT2? However the video doesn't seem to be working when you click on it. Anyone confirm this?

how does a video help?
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

You might hear some sounds that might not have been demonstrated with the audio demos, can see visually how the playing might affect the dynamic performance etc.

Not to mention it'd be nice to see the floorboard properly rather then just an ugly render.

Does anyone use Green Machine 2 here, that seems to never get talked about and gets some awesome tone and has a nice response to it. Sure it only has 2 amp models (oh no), modeling the mesa boogie sound (American) and Marshall (Brit), but for what its worth. I've also experimented with combining amp sims, say use the distortion plugs from Guitar Rig 2 into a clean amp in amplitube, etc etc. Or use external pedals or my V-amp in combination. Im still hopefull of amplitube 2 for the all in one tone were after. Even if it does sound fizzy or what not alone, sounds like it might cut through good in a mix overall. Unless your micing up your amp, the average listener will not be able to say it sounds like he used that amp model in this sim if you have a nice tone that sits well in a mix, no one will care. I guess unless your doing all instrumental solo guitar with listeners that will be amp tone snobs too (which could be most of us in this thread :) ) then that will matter . But for conventional rock/blues/jazz/metal songs will anyone beg to differ, unless the guitar is muddy and mixed poorly? But I've learned here on KVR, most music here is far from conventional, so I could be wrong. Just my 2 cents.

Just curious if you use any amp sims? Reason I ask is you're basically the only guitarist who has demoed it (and said anything about it.)

So neither AT2 or GR2 did anything for you....did you happen to check out the Waves GTR or whatever it's called.

Not a good sign that the only real review basically says it ain't all that :-o

Like your music btw!
I used to use the POD quite a bit, but my main thing now is Re-amping my Marshall and Soldano amps with my x-amp box.

As for virtual amp sims, I own Amplitube 1 and Guitar Rig 2. I use them occaisionally, but not on critical stuff. I would not use them for my main rhythm parts. Maybe for some specialty sounds or fills. I really like the idea of these things, I just wish they sounded better.

I demo'd GTR and thought the Cabinet section might be the best of the bunch but the amp section was a bit fizzy AND muddy at the same time. I Also had some major stability problems with the GTR demo.

I am not Komplete-ly (heh heh)disappointed with GR-2. It's the best so far IMO. I can dial in serviceable sounds, but it's a pain. The presets on any of these sims don't seem to sound very good with my Les Pauls.

To be fair, I didn't spend a whole lot of time with A2. Maybe 15-20 minutes. The presets they had didn't sound good to me though. And that's using the guitar they had on hand. It had that characteristic fizzyness. Their demo bands playing through it sounded really thin. Contrast that with Dweezil Zappa's GR 2 demo which sounded much better. Much better than it sounds at my house also.

Thanks for the compliment on my music! :)

Cheers,

Jeff

The video link is working now. Watching it as I type.

LOL, the guy insist "we have 20,000 combinations!".

Post

Dweezil rules, and some people don't even know it. :D

Fizziness = Yuk. I was impressed by one of the Line 6 models ("Deity Crunch" which is a Diezel model) that didn't have much/any fizz. I think that was the one... I'd have to try again and double-check....

metalifuxx: Check the KvR listing for GMA2 for my review of it. ;)

A little underwhelmed by the video there, but some of the sounds were passable and the dynamics emulation was pretty good, I think i'll really have to try it out with my gear before making a choice between GR2 or AT2.

Post

Bah, the video isn't impressive at all. Might be the guitar player's attitude that doesn't spell much excitement. The dynamic demo wasn't bad at all though.

Btw, to the people that are saying that we got the first actual reviews of AT2, it is not entirly true. We got feedback from people as well from AES, and only a single person didn't seem to like it.

The ecxitement is gone baby, yeah, it's gone

spuddle, my question about the video wasn't really directed at you per se, ...I was just throwing it out there and saying what you folks have now discovered...;)
