kenjkelly wrote:I like the Tracktion system better than the "Dongle" situation faced by other DAW users. You can see lots of compliants by those folks who have lost (stolen) or broken a dongle, or if the dongle quits working. Those folks are up in arms because they have to buy another entire license at $499->$799 each. They also don't have the ability to run in parallel on two machines (for me my try-it system and my real system).
The other DAW users also have to BUY the dongle seprerately when it is not included AND must deal with another company that owns the dongle software. Given what I see there, I'm very happy.
Well, a punch in the stomach is better than a kick in the nuts.

But even when using C/R copy protection, the company can give you a grace period before having to register (IIRC, T1 had that for some time).
Also, re-installs shouldn't change the system ID. This is faulty implementation.

(I agree about dongles being generally worse)

That everything else (except "trust") is worse.

Spacefox your an absolute looser and a tosser, havin' a whine just for the sakes of it!! Why bother what a waste of your energy, not to mention the bad vibes your dishin' on the forum.

If you really do install your OS all the time, your even more of a tosser for not takin' a "GHOST" image of your machine and saving yourself a squillion hours of work. Besides the fact that Microsoft will get up you for "activating" windows alot sooner than Mackie will tracktion. Which implies simply your a Knob jockie and not doing things buy the book, (ie; using pirated warez) People acutally make a living out of this and your ruining it for them. How about you come work for me for Free, and I don't give you a CENT!!! Sounds good to me, but my Morals wouldn't let me do it!!!

If your serious about your music makin' PC you should be Ghosting\Imaging your PC every time you feel you have a stable build, and have a base build which is allready keycoded and activated.

The fact that your blaming "Poor Software" companies for your own shaddy practices does nuttin' but piss me off no end. Stop your winin' and get on with makin' music you git!!!

Mackie, I think, lives up to their status as "not a software company". Although they use c/r, it's about the loosest, lowest stress c/r I've ever encountered. You get two machines and can change each a total of 12 times yourself, then you have to email but can still get further changes. Pretty amazing.

Incidentally, my weird effects have gone back and forth three times between the original and second challenge code. I have both keyfiles but I'm wondering if I will have to reactivate daily.

Tech support has emailed me and seem pretty responsive. They are stumped by this particular issue. If anyone else has this happen, please let us and them know about it.

spacefox, of course I read your reply! I didn't realize it required follow-up. :?

I'm not really in the mood to debate piracy in general. It's been done to death, after all.

Seriously people.
I feel Mackie's/T's implementation of C/R is faulty - as MACHINE ID changes when no changes are made to the machine. So I speak my mind
I feel that, especially considering the previous statement, that Mackie could give as some sort of grace period. At one time, the downloaded version of T was rendered disabled BUT didn't have the white noise eruptions for the first 30 days. This would be great (I believe NI give a similar grace period to their users.)

I dislike Challenge/ Response, and avoid software using it, Tracktion being the sole exception. This does not mean I expect Mackie to change this scheme - they won't. I do hope they will implement it a way that will make it easier on their users, and I voiced my opinion in this fine users forum.

But when a user suggests improvement to a program, or voices his dissatisfaction with a feature, and he is attacked by fellow users - you know somebody did their job right.
Especially when a user thanks the company for limiting them only so much.

@ Lunch Money:
Pardon? We debated piracy?
If anything, I try to explain how piracy has nothing to do with it.

"spacefox, of course I read your reply! I didn't realize it required follow-up."

I just assumed you didn't because you ignored everything in my two posts that didn't suit your argument. My bad.

@Spacefox, you were talking piracy even when you were discussing how it's a regulation of the legitimate end-user. It's inescapable despite your protests. And then your paragraph, "Speaking of arguments repeated..." pretty much confirms the inevitable-- that it's a piracy issue no matter how you slice it. Either the legitimate end user breaking his license agreement by installing to more than 2 machines, or by someone just warezing the program.

I didn't ignore anything that didn't suit my argument, I ignored the argument. There's a difference. I reserve the right to not bother discussing anything that's of no interest to me. If I responded to every single one of your points, guess where we'd be right now? No further, and in a discussion that's been done a million times.

It's annoying to me that you're taking counter-argument as "an attack". If that's your attitude, then here's my attack: f**k off. You can't present a complaint and expect everyone to just agree. And if they don't agree, suddenly it's an attack? That's not the way it works. It's called communication, which is NOT synonymous with "agreement." In communication, people are allowed to present different perspectives. Rather than attack, all I did is present a different perspective than yours. And, until now, I was doing so politely.

"I didn't realize it required follow-up" wasn't meant to be rude or dismissive, it was just literal-- there wasn't really anything for me to add, unless you were trolling for a fight. You're allowed to state your point. If anything, by NOT responding, that's further evidence that I welcome different perspectives. I mean, what the hell? You're obviously looking for a fight or you wouldn't have responded negatively to what were neutral statements, and you wouldn't be checking in to see if I had read and/or "understood" your posts, and you wouldn't be making it seem like you've been "attacked", an accusation which is frankly ridiculous.

I didn't thank Jules and Raw Material software for limiting me. I thank them for giving me the freedom that the vast majority of software users don't get. If you've got your head up your arse so much you can't see past how you've been "inconvenienced" (have you, even?) then there's very little anyone can do for you.

But if you're hell-bent on villifying me, then fine. Now I'm the bad man because I'm telling you to f**k off. You can get back to me when you're open to hearing more than one side of the story.

@Lunch Money:

Regradless of any disagreement we have, I never felt you attacked me. I respect you as one of the most helpful members here, and never witnessed you being unfair to me or any other poster here. Never meant to even hint it and sorry if I somehow gave that impression.
The word "attack" reffered to another post in this thread, that wasn't made by you. I am sure you can spot it.

And I don't mind people telling me to f**k off. Don't even mind f**king off when I 'm told so.
