squid is good...
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Squids - obviously you have a ton of experience.
What worries me, however, is that you appear to have had little hi-gain experience. There is a massive difference between someone who doesnt appreciate metal but tries to make a heavy sound and someone who is passionate about the genre. This is evidenced by most companies attempts to post "metal" clips of their sims in action... they are usually laughable.
Is somone else there the hi-gain expert?

I've even used AT1 on some strings from Miro and some of the loops/samples from the World Intstruments GB...Squids wrote:It is a brilliant idea. Use it on drums too!Meffy wrote:Righty then -- meanwhile, back at the topic: Does anyone else besides me plan to use AT2 on synthesized/sampled guitar (or whatever)? Anyone had decent results this way? Or is this a stupid idea? (I have lots of those.)
A few of those were not my best idea

I don't know...
I know that Squids is a nice guy, and Fritz was kind of agressive, but I can't say he was wrong.
After a year of wait some people have actualy tried the product and stated it is not that good for them, and after that Squids (that is connected with company making this product) comes to this thread and states that people "Should not listen to negative opinions", and than raves about A2 again, and it is very obviously connected with GuitarJeff comment. It does looks like someone is hiding behind "Oh, I am so nice and frendly guy, I want you to do what is best for you" persona, and then after there is a emotional raport with customer estabilished, starts to explain that actualy what is best for the customer is exactly what he has to sell. This is old salesmen trick, and actually is if nothing else, affirmative and positive, and is not openly treating customer like an idiot that has to be manipulated, but is a clear manipulation on a higher, more subtle level. Also, I didn't noticed that Mr Squids felt any need to apologise for clearly dismissing what other people think, and that he is using an old "trick" that is "I know more famous people than you so I know better" that treats people like they have very low IQ, so I am not so sure that Fritz have something to apologise about. If he feels better to apologise, that is fine with me, but I do not like situations in life that people that react from the heart and guts made themselves agressive because they speak in rush, and other people can do same things on other level and just because of form of communication, they are "nice".
Btw. Guitarjeff or anyone else does not know all those people like you so he is not qualified to have a good taste and differentiate good sound from not so good? I do not know rollingstones, so I will shut up from now on, I guess that I am not qualified to evaluate your product and have my opinion unless I think it is great.
Or that means that your product is still greatest, but I am part of this group of people that does not have a good taste, or have "special needs" or does not know their way around with your product?
Anyway Squid, I do think that you are probably nice guy. I know you are salesman and the musician, and the human being, and at some points it looks like salesman begins to come first, more important than some other aspects of your personality. You were actually rude and agressive, but in a very subtle way, and I understand why has Fritz reacted the way he was, I have felt the same thing, just didn't thought it has any sense to point that out, until he apologised.
I do think that your attitude is great way for a salesman, and as far as I can see from some comments, you are appreciated by your customers, but sometimes "I am your friend, buy our product, it is soooo good" approach goes to far and becomes tasteless and ugly.
I hope you don't get this as some kind of personal attack (and you won't probably as you are skilled diplomat with obviously high emotional intelligence), but this is something i had to point out.
Cheers

That is a good point. Someone who is passionate about the genre will surely be able to exploit it the best. That's not me. Btw, one of my ex-roomates, Robbes (German fella) is Van Halen's engineer at 5150 who I've learned a lot from. I know that doesn't count as "Heavy Metal" though.prizo wrote:Squids - obviously you have a ton of experience.

For the styles I mentioned, in my experience it is really hard to get authentic sounding tones without really good emulation (or the real thing). You don't really use Vox AC30s for "Metal". But, the Beatles used them (and Helter Skelter is partially responsible for the birth of the genre maybe!) and I've seen AC30s in action with Tom Petty (forgot to mention Mike Campbell also who I have hung with before and asked some useful questions as I tend to do in those situations), Elvis Costello, Crowded House... it became one of my favorite amps. I have a real one from the 60's brought over from the UK. Queen also used them.
So, I am more of a Fender/Marshall/Vox kind of guy than say a Mesa. Although, I can appreciate a heavy Mesa sound and as a producer/composer you need to be able to go wherever the gig requires. Even though I prefer Santana's Mesa...

It is not about Fritz, it is about guy from the company coming to thread and saying that if someone does not likes his product he is uncompetent. Wfo fuckin cares if you don't care, no one is forcing you to read what other people are posting, no need to be rude.LOL. Nice essay.Who the f__k cares?
Lets talk about AT2 not lil' Fritz' hurt feelings.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. I can only say that it is not intended that way at all. I am a nice guy but not disgustingly so (not phoney). I am also not one who likes to attack anyone. I am passionate about things I like, I like to sell the things I like on our store as well and I have no problem being fully upfront that I have something to gain IF one chooses to buy from us.Vervil wrote:I don't know...I know that Squids is a nice guy, and Fritz was kind of agressive, but I can't say he was wrong.

Criticizing me for being friendly is just odd. Would anyone prefer I wasn't friendly?
I am a sound developer and musician who loves to use this stuff. I am lucky to be involved in some of these tools and I like to share my experiences, knowledge, perspective with others. That's it.

Sure. Squids, since you obviously heard the first alpha version at NAMM2005, where you were presenting the product, and you have a personal copy yourslef, have you noticed any sonic difference between the first alpha and the latest released demoed last week? To me they sounded a bit different with the older version sounding a bit better. It might be the sound recording though...Back to AT2?
What about the downloadable demo, any news on that?
Thanks.

To answer your question, AT2 still sounds pretty much the same as it did in Alpha. Some GUI changes, some nice improvements on operation, optimization and most of the work I think has been on doing the various format versions as it isn't just a VST for the PC.
I am sure there was a lot of work done to have it communicate the way it does with the Stomp which is very unique. The Stomp controls up to 4,000 presets in its "PLAY" mode and in "EDIT" mode you have access to every parameter in AT2 without even having to see the screen or use a mouse (guitarists and mice don't mix
Oh, AT2 did not crash once during the whole show. I haven't had a crash with my last beta either. Seems pretty solid to me! Developers obviously spent some serious time on this product. I think that time will have paid off. It is a great product as a result. (IMO of course

I'm curious about the responsiveness to playing. Fabrizio illustrated this pretty well. I would sure like to have the abilty to play clean and be able to turn it up some and get the good old Sky Dog Allman sound.
