I can relate to that, I was more about what notes I play than about amp or guitar most of my life.
5150 amp is probably most popular within genre players, so if you were not into checking heavier stuff in last decade, I understand why you didn't heard about it.

Thanks Vervil. I am much more into playing fingerstyle acoustic these days. Though when I listen to Mike Stern I still get a hankering to "plug it in"

The guitar I lust after, and it's not even expensive:

Funny that I should lust after it, when my own main guitar is a tele-style Pacifica.
But, there are enough differences...
And the Pacifica take on the Telecaster style is dead sexy. The Fender/G&L has its charms, too, but not sexy ones. More like good home cookin' type ones.

Can't see clearly, to small, what is model on the picture? I have 120s Pacifica btw and it is quite nice for the bucks, but I am using it mostly for experimenting with alternative tunings.

Heh, you must have huge monitors and high resolution. I'm still a lowly 15" (LCD, so true 15") 1024X768. The pic looks plenty big here, but I forget about other people.
In response to Beardedone's comment, of course, the model pictured is a Mike Stern signature model!
Product Page
Of course, Stern still uses his Fender as well, but this Pacifica's a beaut!

Hey, Lunch Money heard of this band, Umphrey's McGee? They're from Chicago,IL USA, a jam band here to some people, European and other metal folks would instantly call it prog rock/metal. Jake Cinninger, the more shred guitar player in the band (although Brendan Bayliss, the other guitarist, does his fair share of shredding too)
, uses a G&L Fender type into a Fuch's amp. Have also seen him use a tele style G&L with the soapbar pickups from time to time.

Hear some of their podcasts if not familiar
http://umphreys.com/music/index.htm
These guys will be doin their first ever European tour in the coming months leading up to and after thier "Jam in the 'Dam" 3 day Amsterdam mini festival in March. I heard their latest album was picked up by a prog rock label in Europe and has been selling good. To anyone across the pond, be sure to check them out when they come your way. This has been my favorite band for the last 4 years, because they are so progressive and diverse, and they shred out improvised metal in a jamband sort of way.

metalifuxx-- Awesome, thanks for the recommendation! I couldn't get at some of that media, but I'm in the middle of downloading a hefty 65MB file I came across!
Fuch's amps look great. I stumbled across them only last week, and I'm impressed by what I see. Too bad I'll never own one.
G&L guitars are great, too. I saw an ASAT classic at the local music store the other day and almost wept.
I love the true single-coil sound, too, but after trying to record in my current EMI-littered apartment, I've sworn off single-coils for the foreseeable future (well, beyond the ones I already own).
Gordon-- Whoops, it's a Broadcaster he uses, then? My mistake! Basically the same thing with a different name, but to me, at least, it's an important distinction to make if for no other reason than putting a pedigree on it!

Hey Midiworks, I don't know if this is any use to you, but I hope so. Just a straight recording from my guitar, into my mixer, then into XT. I used Amplitube to monitor but recorded dry.
Riffs are:
Tool - Cold And Ugly
Oceansize - Charm Offensive
Tool = Schism (The breakdown)
Then parts from some stuff I've been writing.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
