Tracktion Filter Analysis ... Thing.

just something i hacked together over a couple of lunchtimes, thought it may be of use to others.

TFAT.ZIP

Whips through you project directories and compiles a list of all the filters used in the .trkedit files it finds.

You can specify the start directory, whether to include native Tracktion filters in the report and whether you want to breakdown the summary by individual track edits. You preferences are remembered in the registry.

A text file called Tfat.txt is created in your temp directory though it's also opened in your default text editor too so you can do what you want with it (print it, save it, copy/paste it somewhere else...)

To install, just open the zip and copy the exe into any folder you like (zipped it because lots of people have trouble downloading exe's).

erm... that's it.

Could be handy but unfortunately it doesn´t work here. Crash when you hit process..

Post

aw heck...

The exe was compiled with compression so maybe I'll try an uncompressed version...

For the record, only tested on Windows XP SP2. What specs are you running?

Ok, now uncompressed:

same place : TFAT.ZIP

Post

Sorry, crashes at the same place...

I´m running XP SP2.

Post

ok, I'll look into it when I get a chance later.

One little thing you could check for me; do you have a file called trk.txt in your temp folder? (c:\documents and settings\*username*\Local Settings\Temp normally)

Can anybody else get it to work?

.g

Post

No trk.txt in tempfolder here.

Post

ok, it's probably because i was lazy and used the dos/shell DIR command to produce the file list and not my own routine. I assumed all systems could run that command ok...

Thanks for your help asha, head beta tester. :)

This thing could be really useful! Is it safe to try yet?

Thanks for the feedback morelia.

I'll take this version down as it seems only to work on my machine...

Be back soon... :)

Ok, new version to try:

TFAT.ZIP

The folder recursion on this version is limited to one level. ie. if you specify 'd:\tracktion projects' as your start directory it will analyse any edits in this folder and any in the sub folders of 'd:\tracktion projects' but no deeper. So if you organise your projects in folders within folders within folders... then you'll have to analyse each folder seperatley.

Also the report isn't opened automatically anymore but is saved in the 'start folder' you chose.

Feedback appreciated... :)

Where is the Tfat.txt file? Which temp directory?

I tried it, after pressing 'process' the window disappears and thats it.

PC, XP.

Still crashes here..

Sorry Mr T., that spiel you quoted relates to the first, dodgy release. Things have now changed.

The tfat.txt file will be in the directory you specified originally (eg. d:\tracktion projects)

The fact that you didn't get any errors is good! If it's working properly then the window should just disappear like you describe. Maybe I should add a 'job done' message box..?

Let me know if you find the tfat.txt file, hopefully it's worked ok for you by the sound of things...
