Is it true that Receptor only uses Muse-formatted HD?
I have a friend who bought one unit and told me that he can't even change HD's to a larger capacity. He must buy one from Muse....
I would like to confirm this since I'm interested in getting a Receptor but if this is the case, this would be a real bummer.

Yes, direct from Muse only. Can't format it yourself.
It's not a bummer if you know BEFORE you buy. You can order a 200G HD version directly from Muse.
It's a bummer if you know AFTER you buy. I've waited for mine for a long time, til my friend went to NAMM show and brought one back from there....
And it's a bit trouble to replace the HD yourself. You'll have to uninstall one card that gets in your way when you have to unscrew one side of the HD.
It's not too hard, however.

It's a bummer cuz in sample-based libraries, it's always not enough space.... I really think that Muse should open up the option for users to at least add extra HDs as they go along... Even have a firewire connector on the unit as well would be a great idea.
It's a great idea but the last thing I need as a professional is to wait for some replacement HD while my deadlines come at me!

I know what you mean. I almost gave up on using Receptor on stage in the incoming gigs, just because I've waited for my new HD for over one month. Glad that Paul went to NAMM and brought it back for me.
As for the HD size, it's ok by me. With Ivory taking up 41G, I still got over 100G to store other things. The only library too big for the Receptor's 200G HD is the VSL full version.
On the other hand, if 200G is not enough for you, then 2G RAM is not gonna be enough either. That's a limitation harder to go pass.
My plan is that, if the Receptor fits well into my studio setting, then I'll just buy one or two more for heavier projects. That's why I have three PCs running in my studio now, the third running FX Teleport only.
Come by and check out the Receptor in my place when you got time.
