With this wizoo preset,it shows between 0 and 1 on my cpu performance meter in SX3.
My pc is a 2.8ghz cpu hyperthreaded.
The wizoo preset is "choir cathedral" and is a "high definition" IR convolution response.
The wizoo uses reverb algorhythms and IR responses separately or both together...so the cpu draw will not always be low depending on whats used.

also...I set the response trail to a pretty short envelope...the longer the trail envelope the higher the cpu draw...not that all longer trails will step up the draw alot.

so having wizoo on multiple tracks as a real time effect would be an issue ?

I was told that in order to make Enya like reverbs you'd need to use some kind of a delay plug before reverb. I'm hoping maybe somebody can give us any starting-point preset/settings let's say with PSP delays and wizoo W2 or any other combination.
Thanks

Here is the same SX3 setup using the R66 reverb set to it`s "cathedral 1" preset.(didn`t ajust it at all)
http://home.comcast.net/~newdabranck/mu ... rb_R66.mp3
The cathedral reverb sound is definately the Enya reverb sound...and the algorhythmic R66,with it`s low cpu draw, reproduces a very spectral reflection range!

As far as multiple reverbs using cathedral presets on multiple tracks...if you can,and need to,you can always freeze the track(s).
Cathedral reverb already has a pre-delay to it..as you can hear.
This can be increased in the reverb setup if desired.

Like Enya...it seems...you can EQ the reverb out or in so it only sees the frequncies you want it to...like certain resonances.
You can also use the "starplugs""resonator bank" to sort out the resonances.

I recall reading that an Alesis Midiverb was used on early Enya stuff. I was surprised to find that, because I found Alesis reverbs to sound too white noisy for my taste, and much prefered Lexicon sounds.
The layering of tracks (as many as 80) was definately a huge part of the sound, but the reverb was huge too. To a certain extent, I think most reverbs do better on large cathedral reverbs anyway, and in my opinion ArtsAcoustic or R66 or SIR would be better than any Alesis product ever.
For a freebie, the Kjaerhus Classic reverb would do a good job, and imo better than Alesis.

From those MP3s, I preferred the Wizoo one - the R66 sounded a bit hissy to me. I hate to say it, but neither were particularly close to a typical Enya effect.

Which is really hard as you are comparing one voice to 80 voices.kritikon wrote:From those MP3s, I preferred the Wizoo one - the R66 sounded a bit hissy to me. I hate to say it, but neither were particularly close to a typical Enya effect.

The two examples I posted were more to show how the wizoo and R66 sound with a cathedral type reverb.kritikon wrote:From those MP3s, I preferred the Wizoo one - the R66 sounded a bit hissy to me. I hate to say it, but neither were particularly close to a typical Enya effect.
She DOES use it often enough, especially noticable on her close mic`d solos.
My examples are exagerated so the verb stands out.
Her sound,as far as verb, stands out because there are lots of fast attack, short enveloped dynamics in many of her tunes, and you can hear the verb`s trails.
She uses not only cathedral, but churches, chambers, caverns and so forth in the sound.
Some verbs have a paticular vibrance, others not so much.
A verb with a nice open vibrance doesn`t need to be mixed up in the mix as much as a more dull verb to be effective,so i`ve found the R66 very open compared to some other vst verbs.
The R66 and wizoo have many parameter setting that make it possible to really customize your sound...tis is a big selling point for some types of music like Enya`s.
I also like using "spin audio-roomverb M2" cause it`s a good verb and I can find what I like usually by just going through the "always on screen" preset list.I compared it`s cathedral against the R66 and found it,as well as wizoo`s,to be overly responsive to resonance. But hey,I still like it alot!
Another verb feature worth looking for is how it creates "space" when inputing a mono signal to it.
The better verbs give you this feature.Otherwise,a decent multi-tap delay on the verbs output comes in handy.
Bottom line is,verbs like the wizoo and R66 that use the newer verb algorhythms save you lots of cpu over the IR response types, but will cost you lots more cash.
Both types work very well.
The ease in searching through presets or response .wav`s can make the difference whether you going to get the sound your after also.
Wizoo is good cause it uses both IR`s and the new algo...but it`s not easy to navigate through the presets.
The R66 has all the parameters on it`s gui...which is nice.
The roomverb and wizoo have windows to nav through for custom settings.
Choosing a vst verb is more then just hearing an example of a cathedral preset compared to another verb.(PS: the wizoo example setting was modified by me..but the R66 was their preset.)
I hope this helps a bit kadar.
