Yeah, a dedicated PA would be best I think. No point running it through a Marshall if the Marshall emulation satisfies you.

Of course if you already have a Marshall

why emulate speakers with speakers?...use the right tool for the right job...

But one reason that would stop me from using amplitube live all together can be summed up with one word...dongles...

LOL, I was expecting him to be really bad. I guess one should not judge on appearences. His very agile on the guitar. One thing he seems to be lacking though is passion. It seems to me like he does a "guitar face" when he remembers all of a sudden that he should look passionate about it.

Hmmm. Picking up a lot of things from this thread. Starting to know more about where some of you guys are coming from.

Interesting perspectives. As for the crafting your own sound vs. using presets thing, I think that both are good. I do think it is a fantastic thing to make your own presets with the massive amount of possible combinations of amp components and effects (not to mention the rest of the equation such as your guitar, your style of playing etc.). If you are motivated to do that then hats off to you! That's a great creative way to be.

At the same time, I think there is nothing wrong with using presets or trying to get a specific guitarist's sound. Why? Well, for one thing because it's fun! Why not? If I made a Hendrix patch with the Fuzzface into a Marshall and you played your Strat through it and did Purple Haze would that be fun? Might just be for a lot of people! Not everyone wants to sit there and create every preset on their own just to get a certain sound.

That's in the case of getting a specific sound but also in just flipping through presets you can also spend more time writing perhaps and less time messing around with the sound... or you can use it as a starting point (which is what I tend to do on anything that has presets) and tweak it from there to your liking.

So, some people are after their own unique sound and some people are after taking a great sound and writing with it and other people are after "signature" sounds (whether they are in a cover band or like to have fun pretending to be Jimmy Page or whether they play in a band influenced by Zeppelin and use that "flavor").

One of the things that I think is great about AmpliTube 2 is that it appeals to both- the person who wants to create a unique tone on his own and ignore the presets and the person who is looking specifically for good presets and will even collect as many as possible (and take Squids up on an offer to exchange them once it is out, have contests, trades, challenges etc.).

I think it is all good. Feel GOOD if you are one to create your own unique tones! Be proud for sure. I wouldn't feel BAD though if you like to use presets. Whatever works for you and your music is the most important thing IMO.

By the way, Chibs, coming down from that high? That post was like Monty Pythons "A Fish, A Fish" sketch.

I think it even had the meaning of life in it! I am not actually "the salesman" but I could be a good example of how a salesman can be in terms of energy, passion, objectivity and not taking one's self too seriously (in fact, if you guys know any salesman that can do that please let me know as SR or IK are always on the lookout for reps).

Cosmic, I don't know which tunes although I think it was most of the album. They are playing their concert tonight and I was going to go but I am a little under the weather. Some others are going. I think they are going to do an interview or something where they explain in more detail how they use it. They really love it. Also SampleTank and Sonik Synth. It is really cool hearing back how the software is used. Forums give you some watered down feedback (because you don't get to meet the person face to face to be able to have an idea where the person is coming from... plus there are people here who work with other developers who sometimes want to put a product down so theirs might look better). But, meeting the professional musicians out there who use the software we're talking about to make records, soundtracks, World tours... it is inspiring.

Yes, funny he? There are three things that seems to not fit together: This massive man (prejudice, for sure), his face expression and his cool guitar playing. But hey, listen to the other demos he made for the Diezel amps at www.diezelamplification.com , he's a great player.

I always think these are unfair characterizations. I always play my best when I'm "internal". As soon as I try to look out and perform I suddenly can't play with emotion. Passion doesn't require guitar face.

On the subject of tone: I'm more on the side of Hink when it comes to the idea that the majority of tone comes from the player not the equipment. I've seen too many examples at clinics where you can go play the equipment that was used for the clinic and you, or some other participant sound like total shit using the exact same setup that some pro just made sound fabulous. Learning how to use equipment is extremely important if you are a "guitarist".

However, I'm totally on the side of the software when it comes to the possibilities involved in sound crafting. I just have yet to hear anything that I would use as a "guitar" sound. But, I've created and heard of examples of amazing soundscapes created from the amp sims. Being able to use both is like having two super hot girlfriends that also like each-other....a lot.
