Hello everybody,I posted once before on here about Tracktion,and it was very helpful! I am a complete dumbell when it comes to MIDI,so here is my deal:
1.I use Fruity Loops,but don't like it.Too complicated,and it is quite big.I would like to use the included drum synth plugin(RMIV),to take the place of FL.I got the "Stepchild" plug and put it in the chain as per the instructions on the thread about using RMIV in Tracktion,but don't understand how it works.Can someone either explain,or provide links to explain how to assign the drum sounds in Stepchild? Can these 2 work as a pattern builder/pattern song arranger like FL? It seems so.
2.I also have ACID,which I use to fly in old record,or CD samples to manipulate,and make more old-school/underground hip-hop songs.It has a feature that lets you beatmap all samples to line up with the project tempo.Can T2 do things like this? Could I put in a sample and loop/manipulate it just as well? Any recommendations for plugs that could help?
My goal is to rid myself of Acid and FL,and use only T2 for my purposes,making my setup less complicated.Thanks in advance,and sorry for all the question!

Basically you need to send the right notes from Stepchild to RMIV. If RMIV drum are mapped according to GM standard, your bass drum will be C1 (or C0), your snare D1(or 0), etc.
Perhaps some good soul here can send you a preset with the proper notes mapped (I don't own RMIV and don't use Stepchild).
Stepchild + RMIV can certianly work as pattern builder in Tracktion. For arranging, best way is to send MIDI notes from T to change Stepchild's patterns.
As for number 2: T can't do that, but getting a Beat Slicer plugin might help.

Stepchild's one initial weakness is the initial midi note mapping is way out of range for RMIV.
I don't have a map made up, but I do recall it being severely out of range the last time I used this combo. Like a couple of octaves out.
Check out page 49 in the RMIV for Tracktion manual and it tells how to indicate either midi note number or note/octave number. These are on the 'back panel' of RMIV, get to it by clicking on the LinPlug logo.
