I think we are gunna have to agree to disagree at that point :)

Well, since you are ambivalent about clean tone, I think you're right. ;)

Cool being guitar players, innit? :D

At least we can agree on Nick Cave :)

My Nick Cave-esque track is "Don't Know Why"

Post

Nick Cave = awesome. ;)

Don't Know Why = Great! A bit Cave, a bit Bowie. :D

LOL... I should've warned ya... All my stuff is shockingly experimental + badly produced (well, 70%, at least).... hahahaha... (I'm only lazy with my own stuff)

Yeah, "Ashes to ashes" is in my all-time top 10

Hm, that's actually not QUITE true... Izotope Trash allows you to chain two distortion types (like a 12AX7 tube into a 6L6 or EL34). That can have a very similar effect to preamp + amp sim.

I guess Trash is not an amp sim in the narrow sense, as it doesn't aim at replicating EXACTLY any specific amp. But it gets you there, soundwise. The endless number of permutations are sometimes a bit overwhelming, though

And Revalver is actually not quite that crappy - just needs a lot of tweaking, and SOME module combinations are pretty awful..

Cheers

Guitarjeff wrote:See that's the problem. These Amp sims can't do good rhythm sounds. None of them I've heard can. I spent hours trying to get a Sykes-like rhythm tone. I spent about 5 minutes on the lead tone. I still think that could be better also, but you get the idea.

What are you saying Jeff?
This sound is not the maximum, but for me the attack is near to good...

Guitar Rig
That's not bad. I think the echo is helping it a bit also though. Not a punchy as I'd like, but certainly not bad. Reminds me of George Lynch's Dokken tone a little.

You might be shocked to know that's from a 2000 release. :o

Crue had great guitar tones also. Crap player though.
