If I bought a Receptor with stnd memory (512 Meg I'm assuming) what's been the avg number of synths and/or effects that the CPU and memory can handle? Also, is there a memory "sweetspot" where you reach a point of diminishing returns, kinda like some years back in Windows early days where 128 Meg was the "sweetspot"?
I'm certainly not expecting exact lab results, I'm just curious what the usual results have yielded.

Also, I'm assuming the USB ports only available for MIDI data, no Audio is routed in or out to them, correct?

It appears to me that the most efficient use of it's resources for MIDI data would be to plug a USB-enabled keybrd controller into 1 of it's USB in's, mix all of those signals internally, and send them out to the S/PDIF and back into my Aardvark Q10 S/PDIF. Alternatively, if I've got 8 mics going into my Q10 I should route their signals going into Sonar out to the UniWire inputs for effects then back out again to the S/PDIF.

The UniWire Outs appear to be most useful if you have a box like the Alesis HD24 that also accepts Ethernet audio signals. THAT would be a REALLY sweet setup that would allow me to max out my DAW PC's 2.4Ghz CPU.

Receptor ships standard with 256MB of memory, which is actually fine for running most VA synths and effects, but yer gonna want to add more memory if you are using it with a bunch of samples.

Regarding how many instruments you can run, it really is an impossible thing to answer, as each plug in is different in terms of its CPU demands, memory usage, and general efficiency. We've talked about adding more benchmarks along this line of thought, so look for some more info on www.museresearch.com down the road.

You are correct, the USB ports are (currently) for USB MIDI, or mice / keyboards, or iLoks. No audio over USB, that's where UniWire comes in.

As far as UniWire for the HD24, that is unlikely to happen since they aren't really a host, and UniWire is really designed to work within a host computer program. That being said, few things are impossible, so if there is enough demand we can see about working something out!
