I just dowlnaded the 912mb sonicsynth2.mrpk file from Plugorama to install Sonic Synth 2 on my Receptor. I'm using a Mac with OSX. I can open up the Receptor Remote Control and see my Muse and connect. However, when I attempt to open up the Muse in the Network Window, I keep geting this message:

"Select the SMB/CIFS Share vooluome you want to connect to" THe only available volume is the Hard Drive. I click OK and then I get the message:

"The alias Receptor 191960 could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found. My choices then are Delete Alias, Fix Alias or OK. I am confused.

If I attempt to authenticate the SMB/CIFS with a password I'm not quite sure of, I keep getting sent back to the Authenticate again page.
Can anyone please help me out? I'm completely lost

If you can use Receptor Remote Control, try the following:

- Go to the SETUP page and make sure Windows Networking is checked.
- Notice the IP address of your receptor (For instance 192.168.1.105)
- On your Mac in the Finder choose "Connect to Server" from the Go menu.
- In the field "Server Address" type:

Code: Select all

smb://192.168.1.105
Where of course "192.168.1.105" will be replaced by the actual IP address of your Receptor.

Thanks! I'm connected. I assume smb is short for Samba?

The prep file seems to have transferred alright. Plugorama says :On your computer insert the Sonik Synth 2 installation disks and copy the libraries to the Receptor hard drive at:

<Receptor Hard Drive>\Samples\IK Multimedia\Sonik Synth 2\SS2Instruments\
Please forgive my ignorance, but do I now drag the Install Sonic Synth icon to this file? If so, I see a SS2Pref file on the Receptor. If I attempt to drag the icon, I get the message that the operation cannot be completed because I don't have sufficient privileges.

The Receptor's hard drive appears on your Mac desktop as "Hard Drive" When you open it you will see a folder called "Samples" Inside "Samples" there is a folder called "IK Multimedia" inside it a folder called "Sonik Synth 2" and finally inside it a folder called "SS2Instruments"

You have to open folder after folder until you get a window for the last folder "SS2Instruments" The folder should be empty.

Somewhere on your Sonik Synth 2 installation disks you will find the sample libraries. I think they are in a folder called also "SS2Instruments" I don't' have it in front of me, but I seem to recall that there are a bunch of folders there like "Pianos" or "Guitars". You have to copy them to the "SS2Instruments" folder on Receptor.

Is it sensible to assume that this (using Samba) is, for all intents and purposes, the BEST way to connect to the Receptor from an OS X machine? AppleTalk, at best, is unreliable, whereas ol' Bonjour/Rendezvous has no problems (using Receptor Remote control) finding the unit and establishing a control session....

Samba is the best for Mac OS X. AppleTalk is there just for Mac OS 9.
