Upgraded to latest version - now my projects will not open!

Actually I do not have any audio in my Tracktion projects except for a couple of single track mastering files that I wouldn't call projects in the first place.

Somehow you've ended up Tracktion-cursed. I can't explain it any other way. I feel badly for you, of course, but I've never seen someone run into so many hiccups with what SHOULD be a seamless and intuitive experience.

You sure are right about that. I seem to be cursed with this program. To be fair I do not give it the time that I should and lose patience with it's foibles much sooner than I do with other applications. For example, eXT is much less intuitive but I find it so interesting that I don't care about it deficiencies.

For the record, the original reason I got Tracktion was that it was very good at setting up automation of the Cameleon5000 morph parameter in fact much better than Fruity 4 or Sonar 3 at that time - since then Sonar 4 and Fruity 6 do a bang up job.

I replied over on the T2 board as well.

Doesn't it tell you what source data it's looking for?

Is it maybe midi files? Did you import those midi files? If you still have the project folders the only thing that should be missing is any imported audio or midi that you didn't put in the project folder.

Where the projects originally located on your C:\ drive and now you are trying to open them from the external drive? Or vice-versa?

Are your VST's in a different directory then they were?

Like it has been said, most likely it's just an issue of stuff not being where Tracktion thinks it should be.

I hate to see you give up on T2...I have a boatload of hosts but I always do my composing in T2. Funny part is that it was the cheapest

It is asking for midi files which were, for the most part, created within Tracktion. I think that these were saved on my C:\ Drive. My VSTs and VSTi are all still located on my dedicated D:\ drive.

I am not worried so much about recoveruing these so much as not making the same mistake. I will give Tracktion another go in week or so when I have some time to relearn how it works.

Unless I'm mistaken, the MIDI information is actually stored in the .trkedit files themselves. Which may or may not be problematic if I'm correct.

search your hard drives for

*.*tracktion

&

*.*trkedit

if you find thease files you should be able to get all the info from them except refrences to moved audio files (witch you said you didint really use any of)

if your serch only finds the demo songs then yous you where saving all your projects in the folder that you deleated

PS, if this is the case then thats verry bad!! dont do it again!!! with any host!!

Gordon, tracktion is the ultimate wysiwig (watch you see is what you get).
It is a mixer in and of itself.
There's no need for a traditional style mixer with tracktion because everything is accessible on screen.
For example a primary function of a mixer is to adjust volume and pan. This is easily adjusted in Tracktion by means of the default volume/pan filter on the far right side of every track.
You also have individual track metering, almost infinite vst loading per track, automation, routing, and sends and returns on each and every track. Why would you want a screenhog-mixer when the mixing is built into T's architecture and UI?
It's definitly a change from the norm, but it is a very liberating change.

Come to the light side, Gordon... you might be a little afraid, but you'll get through it. Mixerless (well, not really, there IS a mixer) is the way forward!

Playlist... meh, copy+paste the parts that you want to repeat.

Of course it does! Otherwise you could only listen to one track at a time.. Actually T's mixer is better than most as it's much more flexible and it offers a 64-bit summing option.. it just looks different!

Thanks guys. One problem with Tracktion for me is getting all of BFD's outs to go to individual processors. That's when a mixer is needed so I can see what is going where. I find the Tracktion MO is too cryptic for these instances. When I have a few spare hours I'll try again but not soon - I need to cool off. Besides, I have a bunch of projects to finish in Overture, eXT, Fruity and Sonar that are all getting somewhere, so I can't do it this week.

I usually do it like this:


The bottom two GAC-1s are running in dual mono mode to provide compression and EQ for kick, snare and 2 toms. The whole thing is saved as a rack preset so I can drop a fully mixed BFD into an edit as easily as i can the stereo out version.
