oic... well, hopefully when automation is added it will be a big enough release to reset my 30 day trial... i would really like to see how that will be implemented (another button like the "knob" button beside piano roll of any track containing VSTi?)

Warning: wannabie ahead!
I'm not even a newbie (yet) but I'm following the developments. Will try Tracktion as soon as my current project is finished.
I have a (maybe stupid) question: Is it possible to use DirectX plugins? Can't find this in the faq nor in the feature list. Thanx.

D'oh, I completely missed that one.

Mo'Bass... here (http://vbaudio.jceinformatique.com/down_ffx16.htm) is a dx to VST wrapper (haven't tried it myself... do you actually know of any decent dx plugins...?)-

Izotope's Ozone 2. Delaydots has DX/VST effects, and I find the DX much more stable than their VST counterparts.eracerbit wrote: (haven't tried it myself... do you actually know of any decent dx plugins...?)

Thanx. I have the 'lite' version, ffx4. The problem is, the only DX plugin I use is OB-tune, and that's mono. It doesn't work with ffx4 so I'm guessing it wont work with ffx16.eracerbit wrote:Mo'Bass... here is a dx to VST wrapper (haven't tried it myself... do you actually know of any decent dx plugins...?)
I there a true mono dx to VST wrapper somewhere?
Oh, and I believe that the Waves VST shell isn't the greatest so it's preferable to use their DirectX versions. Or is that only a Cubase problem?

Another question:
Is it possible in Tracktion to use groups? Either for easier mixing of lets say 10 backing vocal tracks, and ofcourse for sharing a reverb. If I have to put a reverb on each track I'll be out of CPU real soon. I know theres the freeze function (which is sooo cool), to take care of that, so maybe that takes care of that.
Thanx for answering!

Sorry, just thought of another question:
Is there something like the Cubase 'lane editor' in Tracktion? And Segments?
I always liked the different layers there are in Cubase.
1. Part
2. Segment
3. Audio File
Jules, if you need more expanation than just yell! I'm afraid it's getting late here and I'm tired so I cannot think clearly...

Thanx. Cool. That's great. Ok, so now I'm wondering how this works with the freeze function? Suppose I want my background vocals frozen but not the reverb track because I have another track I want to add the reverb to. Can this be done?amoebe wrote: In order to 'simulate' this, you can route one track into another. So what you do is create an empty track, put your reverb in it, then choose for all you backing vocal tracks this new tracks as output device et voila.

OK, I'll try to explain this as clearly as I can (this is Cubase 5.1, in SX it's a bit different, not better...):
In Cubase what you see on the Arrange Page (your Edit page) is an audio part. When that part is dubble clicked, a new window (I know...) opens with all the Audio Segments for that part.
A segment is some kind of viewport over an audio file (like your Audio Clips). It's possible to draw a volume on the segement, which is relative to the track level (so called Dynamic Events, they are missing in SX). One Audio File can have many segments.
The segements are layered vertically. With the last segement audioable on the audio channel. Maybe a little graphic helps. A block of 'X' is a segment.
XXXXXXXXX____________
___XXX__XX____XX_____
__________XXXXXXXXX__
Suppose this is a vocal with some corrections in the first verse, and then the second verse, which is from a different take, also with one correction. The first segment is automaticaly muted when the next is started and it's audioable again when the other segement has finished.
So instead of seeing this mess on the main Arrange/Edit page, it's hidden and all you see is just one vocal track.
Pff, now I know why writing manual is such a pain. I still feel it's not completely clear, maybe someone can explain it better or tell me that there is another way of doing this in Tracktion.
Thanx for listening.

To answer your freezing question: no you can't. You have to freeze the verbtrack so you can't use your reverb anymore. But you can create2 verbtracks. You just ctrl+drag your reverb plugin to another empty track, Tracktion copies the plugin and its settings to a new track and you use that track as ' master reverb' track. the other track is frozen so it doesn't eat any CPU anymore.
I'd suggest you experiment with the freezing function and routing with the demo (or better still: get yourself the full program
). It'll become clear soon enough.

Thanx, and I will, as soon as I've finished my current project. I'm sooo fed up with Cubase crashing on meamoebe wrote:I'd suggest you experiment with the freezing function and routing with the demo (or better still: get yourself the full program). It'll become clear soon enough.

no, I still don't fully get the distinction between parts/segments, but I've got a demo of cubase knocking around here, and I need to play with it anyway to see how it does some VST stuff, so I'll try and get my head round it.
