Is it a fraud

How does Tracktion REALLY do compared to the so called professional programs like logic, pro tools and other software? Be self-critical. I have been using Tracktion 2 now for a about a month and I am so happy – everything sounds great. I spent almost two years testing other programs, begged, borrowed and well stole...Downloaded many demos as well, Tracktion won. I still wonder: What's so good about those other programs? Are they (the users) being screwed and seduced by ads and hearsay (pros use this and that so it must be the best...) or is it me?
How about the really expensive plugins? There are reverbs for over a 1000 dollars and then we have free reverbs from Kjaerhaus. What is REALLY the difference, please do not say taste, it has to be more than that. If there are two or three audio experts out there who says they can hear the difference in quality, well then who cares?
I was looking for a good affordable wave editor. Tried everything I could get my hands on. Almost by accident I downloaded the MAGIX Cleaning Audio Lab 10. I cost 40 Euros and I can you tell it is worth every penny. Don't get fooled by the MAGIX marketing. It is actually so good I have the same question here: What is so good about Wavelab, audition and Sound forge? What can they do that the magix program(s)(it is actually "two in on") can't? Plaese tell me.
Here are some of the editors I tested before I bought Magix:
Acoustica
Wavelab 4 and 5
Goldwave
Audacity
Sound Forge
and few others I can't remember the names of.
Call me a fool or any other name but do not judge until you really have tried this progam.
IMPORTANT:
If you try the demo you should know that MAGIX Cleaning Audio Lab 10 is actually two programs in one, and the wave editor (they call it music editor) is not included in the demo and it is really powerful, looks a lot like Samplitude. I could send you screen shots of different features if you like.

Well, I must admit that I DO like SoundForge's loop tuning-tool quite a bit, but I'm sure not gonna upgrade (from v5). Is there anything similar in a free/low-cost editor (MAGIX maybe)?
At home, he's a tourist...

It probably is a derivative of Samplitube, seeing as Magix own Samplitude. Sounds though it could be a bit of a bargain.BosseJo wrote:the wave editor (they call it music editor) is not included in the demo and it is really powerful, looks a lot like Samplitude.
Whether expensive software is fraud... no.

Like it or not protools is it's own beast and is hard to compare to anything else. That is the case simply because there are a lot of wonderful plugins made ONLY for protools. Then there is the whole dedicated hardware issue. Then there is the issue of it being a de facto standard in the recording industry.

I use both Pro Tools and Tracktion, and I find needs/uses for both of them. I also use FL studio, but that's mainly just for when I'm working with synths and samplers. I used to knock on Pro Tools until I used it. In the end, most people don't need things as have as many options as Pro Tools. I just wish the whole "What program is better?" argument would end. These days it's more about what program works better for you and what you feel most comfortable with. The right engineer can make magic with any software.

Heh, I knock on ProTools because I've used it.theshaggyfreak wrote:I used to knock on Pro Tools until I used it.
Like you say, it's all down to personal preference. I'll take Sound Forge and Audition over Audacity any day, and I'll take Tracktion over ProTools and Cubase, even if money were no object.
And really, money is a secondary consideration. The most important thing is if the software is good for you or not.

I cant comment on T vs. other hosts (besides good old Ntrack which I upgraded from)...
...but, many many times, I find myself grabbing for classic compressor and classic reverb over my Waves RComp or RVerb. They just seem to sit well in the mix alot more frequently.

I too went the 'play with all the software and see what you (me) can do with it.
That is what it is about. What you yourself accomplish and feel comfortable using and creating with.
I settled on SoundForge for loop and general audio work.
Tracktion I came to after trying to get NTrack (v1-4) to work consistantly and NOT crash which was always at the most inopportune time. Since RMS/Mackie had the v1 nfr for free I gave it a shot and promptly found myself making music, not learning/creating more expletives which only come in handy now in other areas.
T2 came out shortly after that and been happy with it. Does it need some more tweaks and diddles...oh yea. But then what software doesn't?
Would I take a Pro-Tools setup? Sure you offering? Will I like it aka use it over Tracktion? Probably some. I have messed with it a bit. A friend of mine is a Pro-Tools graduate of Pro-Tools Academia and it is glitzy stuff. But for me, really? ...no.

no one needs any other tool. It's true. No fraud.
People have come back to tell me that tracktion truly is the new wave, and i said damn straight.
Midi sequencing is it's only shortcoming imho, and I think it needs a step sequencer like fruityloops has. Besides that, It's more than fine. It's perfect for beginners and "professionals".

Yes it is you! Sorry man but you dont have to be an Einstein in audio to hear and test that. I will speak shortly about reverbs. Audio editors is not something i could talk about. Do yourself a favor and go download ArtsAcoustioc Reverb demo. You can find it at www.artsacoustic.com Install demo and put any sound through that reverb and compare it to Kjaerhus reverb.BosseJo wrote:I still wonder: What's so good about those other programs? If you cant hear and spot a difference and decide which is better and AAcoustic reverb is a bit expensive then i think that noone can help you.
That is algo reverb. You should try same with R66 reverb.
If you wanna go even further with differences take a look on WizooVerb or PristineSpace. Both are impulse response technology reverb (and can be used for other effects).Pristine space can be downloaded and demoed at www.voxengo.com. Or you can try with SIR. SIR is free but you will need a good PDC host (download at http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html). Then go to www.noisevault.com and download some lexicon impulses (eg. Lexicon 960). Compare it to any free reverb. Not just that from Kjaerhus.
Again if you cant hear and spot a difference and decide which is better for you then i think that noone can help you.
Reverbs mentioned here isn't cheap solutions. And sound behind them is not any kind of hype. They are good. But again some of them are free and PristineSpace is good to go for price needed to pay. In the long run IMO you will have more benefit to your music if you spend money on quality reverbs. Anyway if you dont like that i think you will surely find what does mean "garbage in garbage out"
On the other side there is nothing bad about Kjaerhus reverb. Especialy when you know it's free. It can be used in some ways but if you need to go deeper then you know why Kjaerhus is free and ArtsAcoustic is not so free. Hope this will help and clearly this is not a fraud!

Thanks for the info but you mix-uped two different clausesYes it is you! Sorry man but you dont have to be an Einstein in audio to hear and test that. I will speak shortly about reverbs.
Is the SIR reverb free? I don't understand, does the impulses cost a lot?
And I don't mean just reverbs I was talking about any audio related software. I will try the expensive reverbs and I am sure you're right but an another interesting question is will the average listener notice the quality of reverbs in a song on the radio? In the end - who is the judge? Einstein is a symbol of intellingence but really stupid people can be a lot more musical...
