Definitely Live. You obviously have a good experience with Reason to build on, and Live + Reason = a stunning combination. In fact there is no such thing as Live + Reason - ... in fact it is Live X Reason

Absolutely fantastic combination. 8)

There's links to all the hosts from the KVR pages dedicated to them, accessed from the dropdown menu at the top right of the KVR homepage :)

You've got the right idea with trying all the demos you can. Nothing can substitute for using a host yourself, with your own plug-ins, on your computer. Advice is fine, but what I love to work with might leave you wondering how I can use anything that bizarre. :-)

headquest's advice is sound (now and pretty much always, in my experience). KVR has resources all over the place. The most powerful of all, with the possible exception of the forums and some of these other guys, is the KVR search engine page: http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php Bookmark that puppy and you'll be in good shape.

why what is it you use?

Me? Sonar for most of my work (which is boring and uninspired, but what the heck). Live for fun and improvising. Oh, and I've got energyXT but have barely begun to learn how to make best use of it.

Buy a controller or the likes and get a free copy of CubaseLE (or Ableton live lite, whatever the product you buy determines this.) You get a full run through of what the full apps offer without any restrictions, plus you get a piece of "hardware" that will come in useful no matter what you end up using.

The "issues" i'm having learning CubaseLE just now are probably things that i will be ever so grateful for once i've learned the app properly (the routing methods and such.) The more flexible something is the harder is it to learn initially, but become a godsend later on. CubaseSX etc is far too daunting for me right now, so i'm more than happy to start on an app with 50% of the options removed (assuming that's the limitation of LE, i really don't know.)

Depending on the product, this might be a way to get a deal on the upgrade from the "lite" to the full version too.

There is. I've looked into the cubase upgrade at least and it is there (you can move up to sl or sx...basically any other current cubase product.) Not something im even close to thinking about yet  I'm sure ableton offer the same, it would only make sense for them to.

It's how I got Live, way back when. :-) Firewire 410 used to come with Live "Delta" and Reason Adapted. Could've upgraded both, but I already had the full version of Reason. If I hadn't, the savings would have better than half-way paid for the sound card.
