Tracktion error in playback

I'm getting an error during playback something like "Playback device has stopped unexpectedly" and playback halts. I can wait a few seconds and press play again and it will start bak playing. I can then play the song several times with no problem before the error shows up again.

Any ideas?

I would start with increasing your buffer settings to see if it goes away.

More info is needed, though, like PC or Mac, soundcard, processor, memory... you know, the usual list of suspects!

You're pushing your system too hard in one way or another. Try freezing a few tracks to see if that clears it up.

I'm using the Mackie Onyx 400F for audio but I've also seen this happening with just the built in sound card. I'm running a new Gateway PC with AMD processor and 1gig ram with a seperate SATA hard drive for audio. I've only got 2 tracks of 44.1 audio playing when it happens with no filters/plugins (very light load).
I will try increasing the buffer size again and see if it makes any difference. I'm at work right now so can't really try anything 'til tonight.

that setup should run happy at 10ms

also do you have the latest drivers for your mother board, sound card? & latest windows updates?

all so dose it happen with no audio in at all? (ie, only playing vsti's

do you get a "!" at the end of your cpu meter when it happens? (the "!" will show in the far right of the cpu meter if there is a disk overload, it has nothing to do with cpu load)

You think I would need 10ms huh? Maybe that's my problem...I'm running with only about 3ms. (128 samples at 44.1) I'll see if increasing the buffer size helps eliminate the error. Everything I do is overdubed and the latency is really driving me crazy. I'm muting the track I'm recording on and then "advancing" the overdubbed track to get it synced back up with the original track(s). Is this the best way to correct for the latency when overdubbing? I'm generally just recording one instrument at a time while monitoring one or two tracks.

Anything running in the background (virus scanner, etc) that might be spiking the cpu from time to time? It might also be a program peeking out, looking for an internet connection every once in a while.
