Aleksey, I think any extra models you can add would be extremely nice. Marquis is already a very flexible beast but having more gain reduction variations would make it even better (don't worry about adding complexity, it already IS quite complex).

you judge about something just from these files lol?Barbarossa wrote:Good job in modeling the sound but it still is quite some bit away. Listen to the two bass-kicks on the beginning of the 3rd quarter (bum tschak bum bum). The bum bum is soft and round and not so punchy and clear. It still is not that pro-sound, the SSL creates.bmanic wrote:After about 20 minutes of tweaking I came up with this preset for marquis. Ironically, I couldn't get even close to the original SSL clip with T3 mode but T1 mode in Feedback gets pretty damn close.
I'm quite surprised, how bad Waves emulated the sound (example 2 of the clips) compared to the URS1980. URS1980 ist the thing.
this blind-test is funny, but not more.
in the other test more people liked the waves more than the hardware, but that doesn't mean a lot.

he first used the hardware with some setting and tried to duplicate it, maybe he could have dialed in a better setting with the plug-ins. actually i'm quote shocked how many people form opinions about something just with the provided files. you should test things on your own.

Oh I can hear it. It just seemed to me, that you've probably never heard an SSL in your life. Comments like yours just sound like learned opinions. I mean: "SSL is more pro".Barbarossa wrote:Sorry if you can't hear it.
If you had read the comments and listened the blind tests read you would've noticed the *everybody* had difficulty telling which was which, even hard boiled SSL afocionados. that's why you simply cannot say that "SSL is more pro". It's just plain ignorant.
I personally liked none of them, no matter how accurate the modeling was. The SSL is simply a boring sound to me. To give you a hint why that is:
"It still is not that pro-sound, the Marquis creates."

Sure, because Waves claims to have modeled the SSL. So i expect at least the scaling on the knobs is correct...defjamm wrote:you judge about something just from these files lol?
It doesn't mean anything. There were also people hearing, that 2 + 3 were similar, not 1 + 3.in the other test more people liked the waves more than the hardware, but that doesn't mean a lot.
In both examples, the Waves sounds the same and is clearly the worst.
That is correct, but why try the Waves, if it already failed at these tests so clearly for me? Better i'll try the URS.you should test things on your own.

That is not true. I said, it creates the typical pro sound in this example, while the 2nd example fails at doing so. You know, the pro sound is more a feeling it creates. I immediately had that feeling with the examples 1 + 3 although they are far from being perfect, while example 2 is "dead". That i can clearly hear differences made the conclusion only easier.Kingston wrote: I mean: "SSL is more pro".![]()
Strangely i had no problem to identify the 2nd example clearly as the worst on my laptop. I wrote that earlier in this thread (p.5).If you had read the comments and listened the blind tests read you would've noticed the *everybody* had difficulty telling which was which, even hard boiled SSL afocionados.
Between example 1 + 3 i can't hear and feel a difference.

It isn't. The feeling you describe is more widely known as placebo.Barbarossa wrote:You know, the pro sound is more a feeling it creates.
It feels pro because you already know about the SSL association with the tests.
I bet you I could trick you into believing you're listening to a great lexicon L960 preset with using wunderverb. Things like this have everything to do with how they are presented.
