It would be nice if there was some way to find where a GUI widget is represented in the color editor. For instance, I spent 15 mins last night trying to locate where to change the color of the "new filter..." button...
...Still never found it...
Maybe there could be some way of highlighting an item in the GUI once it is selected in the color editor? Or vice versa?

It might get cluttery depending on implementation, but it would be WELL worth it. It took me 3 or 4 skins before I started remembering what each description actually referred to.

One way to do it is ala Ableton Live, where you toggle a mode and the entire UI controls responds to the mode -- like that with color but where you click on the item to colorize, then the palette pops up with your favorite/most recent colors chosen, etc.Lunch Money wrote:It might get cluttery depending on implementation, but it would be WELL worth it. Couldn't agree more. Very tedious until you remember the name of the item you want to change colour. Also I couldn't find an option to change the colour of midi notes. They are yellow by default. Correct?

Midi Note colour can be changed, I'm sure of it. Well, not sure, or I'd give it my 100% stamped guarantee, which I can't do from work. But it seems to me that it can be changed.
The Ableton way sounds great, but one thing I *like* about the current T way is that certain widgets are affected by the same change. Helps more easily create a unified theme and helps you to avoid making it a cobbled-together look.

I'm also at work Lunch Money so I can't check but I searched the other day for the midi note colour option and couldn't find it, just the midi note border or midi note when zoomed out.

It's at least feasible that they could make a colour editor that allows logical grouping AND custom per-widget colours. I'm not much of a UI designer, though, so I'm not sure what the best way would be to accomplish this.

I don't have time to actually DO this (unfortunately, got exams again), but wouldn't it be pretty straightforward to cobble together a PHP or ASP page with a screengrab of the Tracktion interface?
The idea being, you make an image map ot the various areas of the interface (in Dreamweaver or similar WYSIWYG editor) and when you click on any of those areas it gives you a popup box that's linked to that property.
As a proof of concept you could then just enter the hex code for the colour. In a later version it would be nice to have an colour wheel you can click on to select a colour (there's probably code for that available on the web easily enough).
So you click on the colours, it writes the hexcode to a variable, when you've changed all the colours you want you then hit "apply" and it sends this all through to a page that displays all those variables on screen with the hex codes you selected.
You then choose file / save as in your browser window, save it with the correct extension for a tracktion colour scheme, and bingo, job done.
So .... i'll expect it by half five today guys, get cracking

Yes, colour schemes are just an XML file. There is already a colour scheme generator floating around! Someone with a bit of ambition could pull it together.

I could do it, i just don't have the time at the minute or I would. The hardest / most time consuming bit would be figuring out where each setting maps to the gui, and then creating the image map.
