Lunch Money, they use the same algorithm, I am not sure about the ADCs though, the inputs, and the PODs run the algos on shark DSPs, maybe the code is more optimized than the x86 code.

Btw Hink, congrats mate! I see that you also got the newest hardware version...very cool.

Make sure to audition Studio direct out and plug in a good pair of headphones ( grados highly recommended ), it is an out of this world experience.

There is also a TONN of patches you can get for it from customtone.com, the best one are by a fella called AndyZ.

You can record also over USB. Wet signal or dry signal so you can re-amp later.

There is so many stuff you can tweak with the podXT live...

Keep us posted on how you like the XTL.

thanks...but you do know that I've had my pod2.0 for several years right? I use the line six tone editor always, know all about tone transfer...I really tend to make my own presets...see I had a plexi head...as well as a boogie (traded my plexi for that) I also have owned a v4, peavey classic, randall commanderII and a twin...plus a few mistakes along the way...like a dean markley, a tusc, a polytone (though that had some good points) a vavlestate and a marlboro...so tweaking is what comes natural too me.

But don't take me wrong here, I really do appreciate your input and you're right, there's a lot of tweaking I can do...:)

As far as I know (which isn't 100%, not being a Line6 programmer), it's the exact same code just ported to the PC. The ADCs I don't know about, but the consensus is that the TonePort's are excellent. I personally wouldn't know the difference unless they were truly god-awful, but other people seem to think the TP has one of the cleanest paths to the computer available at any price.

Lots of people at the Line6 forum own both. Anybody will tell you that the sounds are identical. ;)

My first reaction with the xt live is pretty good...but doesn't sound like my 2.0 by any means...I played it for a couple hours now (through my Dt770 headphones)...truly this has many possibilities...I really like the idea of plexi with the jump cable, but imo it doesn't sound like my plexi did and I used the jump...but that could be a memeory thing...I did trade it in 1986...like anything it will take some getting use to and learning what gets me where I want to go.

As for using tone presets from the tone exchange...I downloadeed trons for my 2.0 and used none in songs...but I like the line 6 editor (not that crap sound diver that worked when it felt like..I think it was a congressman/woman because it didn't like to work often), with the editor I could do a lot...I'm going to line 6 soon to register and download some stuff...plus I'll look at the model packs (no model packs for 2.0)...I love it, but I'm glad I didn't give up my 2.0 for it...:)

as far as the tone port goes. Can it record sound through USB to your computer? How quiet is it?

Thanks,

well the xt uses the usb as well and it's quiet enough for me and hiss and hum are truly hated by me. I'm very anal about that, drinks around my gear, magnets, dimmers, ect...of course there still will be some noise, but todays noise reduction software will take care of it in instant...:)

thanks Hink.

I wonder if the toneports can be used as only a DI box as well.

I have a free upgrade to AT2, I really want a super clean DI box. but I also need a killer exact replica of the mutron III

I have the behringer bass VAMP pro and it has a good sound, but the hiss coming from the 1/4 jacks is pretty crazy.

The Toneport sends its signal via USB using either ASIO, Core (no universal binary yet though), or WDM drivers, just like most soundcards. It'll operate almost identically to a soundcard with one exception:

Yes, it can operate as a completely clean DI box, but the Gearbox software must be running. In "Bypass" (DI) mode, it doesn't consume much for resources, but it still has to be running.

In fact, it's better than a DI box in most ways. Matches impedance, can be completely bypassed, but you also have the OPTION to use pre-amp models as part of the signal chain... so it's like going direct into a Neve or other desk (supposedly, and with obvious limitations... a $200 item won't perform the same way as a multi-thousand dollar legendary piece of hardware) instead of just purely clean.

You have the option, at least. ;)

Very very low noise floor... lower than my other input signal options, all of which are "budget", so it' might not be a fair comparison, but nevertheless very clean.

I would say that it compares favorably with my UA-1000, I would say the UA 1000 is every so slightly quieter. Mebbe on the order of 1-2 DB.

I think that Toneport as DI and AT2 as DSP should be a great combination. You have the clean input of the first and the amplisim of the other.

I used my XTL as DI and I must say that this is how I get my "cleanest" sounds. The recording is always loud and clear when used in bypass ( dry ) mode.

And even if you always prefer AT2's guitar sounds (somehow I think you'll find some gems in the UX2, though!), the TonePort's bass and vocal settings might come in handy!

Hi Greg...(and A3ntar) I got the metal shop model pack...I'm liking this a lot...the Engl is sweet and I really like the 5150...I have so much to explore still, but so far I couldn't be happier...ampliwho? :hihi:

Yeah, the XT's 5150/Criminal is the bee's knees. I'll often layer that with my real 5150 (so I annoy my neighbors 50% less when tracking), and it sounds swell; after the required post-EQ, it's tough to tell the two apart. The XT's pushing five years now, and no amp sim has yet to nail a good high-gain tone like it; A2 certainly doesn't sound like it's going for the crown.
While you're going through the Metal Shop models, be sure to spend some quality time with the Bomber Uber; it has a nice sharp 5150 high-end mixed with the warmer low end of a DualRec... awesome stuff.

I surely will try that...:D I also have noticed I was wrong with my original opinion about the plexi...the tone controls are really as I remember the plexi's being, and it does respond to overdrive like my plexi did, it's kinda like seeing an old friend... :D
