When I import an mp3 file... well I can't import an mp3 file; that's the problem. Nothing happens...

Have you re-started Tracktion since telling it where to find LAME? You need to do so.
Beyond that, almost all mp3-related problems have been localized to the versions of LAME used, and not to Tracktion itself.
