up from 8 to 16 tracks of control surface mapping

I can't remember if this was mentioned in the release notes, or by another member, or not. Since people thought 8 was too few and it's now up to 16, I thought it was worth pointing out.

Sometimes, I feel like I've missed entire events on the forum, so this might be old hat.

Still not enough for me

i usually mike the drums with 12/13 mikes, with 16 assignable tracks i only ha ve 3/4 spare tracks

my 02r has 24 tape return...that is what i want, to be albe to use every one of the 24 returns

EcHo I'm not sure your comment relates to what Lunch was saying. Just to be clear, the 16 "track" limit would only relate to using your 02r as a remote to control the onscreen Tracktion functions (when you move a fader up and down on your 02r the tracktion fader responds). If you were clear about it and I just misunderstood what you were saying, keep in mind you can still assign faders 17-24 (and the master for that matter) to other Tracktion track volumes, you would just have to add them one at a time (and for each project) there in Tracktion's edit section (where you do all your work).

In fact if you are talking about the original o2r, it doesn't even have 24 faders (21?), however the new 02r96 does. But again, makes me wonder if you might have thought the 16 tracks related to bussing audio or something.

the fact is that the original 02r doesn't have any Mackie emulation mode, and so i should use the custom control surfgace stuff, but anyway, it's limited to 16 track and it's not bidirectional (from what i read, honestly i haven't had the time to test it) so it's not useful for me...

we bought that 02 about 3 years ago with adat interfaces and so on, then we wanted to move to had recording and i bought tracktion, never thought about using the tracktion mixing engine, but the again starte using waves plugins (i like the way they sound) so i started doing everything in tracktion, but mixing without a mixer is not easy for me

buing quality AD converter (we need at least 16 inputs) and a control surface (not the beringher stuff please) bring me out of budget right now, so i would like to be able to use my 02 with tracktion.

but i don't want to hijack the thread, i just wanted to explain

well actually you can get 24 tape returns using 2 fader pages, could be 32, but we don't have the fourth YGDAI card for the adat returns

Yeah but as a remote there are not 24 faders. Tracktion allows similar fader pages in banks of 16.

Tracktion has no limitations on the number of tracks in a project and is limited only by your sound card regarding the number of ins and outs.

I don't think I'm explaining this very well cause I still think I haven't cleared up the misunderstanding. What is your soundcard?

holy crap! i use two omni overheads and a dynamic in the kick and i get fantasticly full and rich drum tones.

do me a favor someday, try the three mic config and force yourself to mix with it. you're gonna love the results!

don't refuse, just go do it one day when you have time. and lay down a guitar line and a bass line or something. and get a decent vocalist to sing about clowns and soda pops or something silly, just to get some vocals on a track and go mix it down. you're gonna love your drum sound.

use two omnis and a dynamic.

i used to be mr. overkill too, until i gave this way a shot and now, ill never go back.

But having a possibility to add some drums gives you more options, U can use your
creativity and so on. So 3-mike recording - ok, but not always

Actually my soundcard it's the 02 connected to the pc using the adat bus and an adat pci interface by RME (don't remember the name)

talking about mikes, well i'm not the recording guy at the studio, i mix down, but usually we record with an AKG D112 outside the kick, an old D12 inside, 2 sm57 on the snare (one up and the other on the bottom), a CK91 (is that right?) on the HiHat, 3 mikes from Sennheiser (don't rememebr wich one) on the toms, 2 C3000b as overhead and a couple of ambience mikes that changes from time to time (mainly a rode NT2 in omni mode and a C1000 if we need darker sound)

a lot of mikes but i can try your tecnique, where exactly are the mikes put?
