this is only partially true, IMO. sometimes an innovator will have created something that inspires more innovation, not replication. for instance, a guitarist might hear Jimi Hendrix and become inspired by his innovative use of effects pedals and that might lead to this guitarist devising his own innovative array of stompboxes. this isn't necessarily pillaging Hendrix's sound or method, but pillaging his will to experiment.But a facet of experimenting is that those experiments are invariably going to cause a ruckus and someone is going to have the bright idea of pillaging it. But y'know, they wont ever do it as good as the originator.
