Basic Channel, you should try rewiring Reason to Live 5. I find the combination very inspiring. I am looking towards buying my first VST instrument though. I'm thinking either Spectrasonics Trilogy of N.I. Reaktor 5. Hmmmmm....

Basic Channel you should try Toxic 2 or Purity or Wusikstation in Reason, they are really awesome synths! And you should get into live recording of vocals or guitars that's a lot of fun. But wait Reason can't..........

I've made pieces with Reason that use guitar, vocals, and bass.. don't know what you're doing wrong.Teksonik wrote:Basic Channel you should try Toxic 2 or Purity or Wusikstation in Reason, they are really awesome synths! Ima upgrade to Reason 3 next week.
I researched a LOT and found out the upgrade is very much worth it. The combinator is supposed to kick major ass.
Cheers,

What's the big deal with this Combinator??? I've used it and i find the Props have got it all backwards.
What the Props should have done is allow one to utilize the rack like they normally do, make settings/connections to their heart's content, assign any parameter(s) to any CC(s) if desired, then if one wishes, they could select "Combinate" in the edit window.
This would save the entire rack as one 'combination' or 'bank' that can be loaded onto another rack if desired (it would appear as a single unit that can be opened just like the combinator does now). You can load multiple 'Combinations' if you wish.
That would have been so much better. Not to mention, the CC assignment within the COmbinator is horrible!
Besides, Chainer is much better since it has better CC assignment, it takes VSTs, it can load within itself and it has drag and drop function to edit a chain (reason cannot do this).

I like reason.
I am looking to expand on it though, mainly because I find the filters on the subtractor buzz like an angry wasp on high resonance settings - so i'm looking at other (mainly subtractive) synths.
I find that I can get some nice sounds out of it still, take a pretty bland pad for instance & just start messing with the cv connections, bang a matrix sequencer in with some predefined envelopes etc., layer it up & combinate it.
That's the aspect of it I like - it always seems to beg me to experiment.
The basic subtractor sounds are often bland in themselves, but then there are no onboard effects, so it's to be expected (to a certain extent) - Just need to route it through some verb's, chorus, delay etc.
The maelstrom's another matter entirely, I can play with that for hours & get some real interesting sounds out of it, moving pads, textures, atmospheres.
It's a tool like any other, with strengths & weaknesses, limitations.
You use it, or you don't - you like it or not.

What can Combinator do that anyone couldn't using an instance of EnergyXT inside another host? And eXT only costs $39 which to my mind makes the Reason 3 upgrade look pretty expensive.keyman_sam wrote:The combinator is supposed to kick major ass.
