Reason 3 is simply awesome.

KVR is a mirror of our world, as is the net. Maybe this sounds pretentious, but.....

Wow - pass a few casual comments about how I'm enjoying a piece of software and...
....
A few points:
1. I also use (and like) other stuff e.g. FLS 6, SX2, EnergyXT etc. so I'm not saying Reason 3 is the best...just happens to float my boat creatively at the moment.
2. I repeat, Remote technology really is awesome. So cool to watch Reason scan all my controllers on start up and then assign them to various parameters automatically (still childishly enjoying the BCF motorised sliders I can tell you). True "plug and play"
Like I say, the sooner this sort of behaviour is implemented by other software studios the better, IMHO.
3. I know it doesn't host VSTi's (or even record audio into the sequencer !) but the stability is still admirable (it's still software we're talking about here...).
Anyway I know the "Reason" debate has emerged on KvR on many occasions (probably ad nauseum for some people) but I just wanted to share my thoughts on the latest incarnation.

I got started when I was in the army. I probably played more gigs whilst I was serving than I have since and I probably wrote as many songs and I definitely owned more gear. Its irrelevant [and you're an idiot].spaceman wrote:... in the army for more than a year. I just wished he stayed there and left us the f**k alone

Hi basic channel!
What I like most in Reason is the routing via cables ( and their haptic feel btw.) on the backside. And the limitations of combinators are also a chance for being inventive.

I have eXT too, and it's good stuff. But Reason is what I reach for first most often.
Some people dislike Reason but understand the idea of personal opinion, and respect those who do use it. Good on them. They've got the right idea. Here and there you still run into someone who thinks that because he doesn't like Reason, nobody else should use it either (and who will declare that anyone who holds a different opinion is an "idiot.") I don't need to tell you how much credence to give to such people's proclamations; you'll have figured it out for yourself. :-)
If you like a tool, use it. If you don't, don't. Me? I like Reason and am glad it works for you, Basic Channel, and so many other people. Enjoy.

Thank you, Meffy! Yes, let everybody be happy with his or her favorite tool and share happiness with eachother.

Right awn, as we hipsters usedta say in the days of bellbottoms and zodiac medallions.
Of course, it's good to keep up on other tools too. Reason doesn't do everything, not by a long shot. Some of the genius-level guys at the Props board can make it do nearly anything -- check out what EditEd4TV does with nothing but Reason, or Omar Hashim with Reason and PT, and have a mouthful of caramels first to keep your jaw from dropping off. I'm not nearly that skilled, and use Reason with external hosts and usually alongside VST or DX plugs. Less pure but it's What Works For Me.(tm) :-)

I always come back to Reason in the end. I use all these vst/is, other hosts as a helping hand for things I can't do or can't do as well within Reason, e.g. recording vocals or guitar, making loops with special treatments. This is, what Recycle is for: feeding Dr. Rex. Buen provecho!

Yeah - I've really enjoyed reading people telling us about the tools they like and don't like - it's been fun.Meffy wrote:If you like a tool, use it. If you don't, don't. Me? I like Reason and am glad it works for you, Basic Channel, and so many other people. Enjoy.

In Sunday's "Doonesbury" comic strip, Rev. Rick Redfern comments on Reason.

"Once you let Reason rub up against faith, there's no end to it. Reason's a bully."
