I couldn't tell you. When he speaks sense I respect what he says. He's good with SynthEdit and definitely a competent musician. And love him or hate him, he's important to KVR.

well leave the laptops if you want any power! You are committed to laptops, that why you like reason?
..anyway if reason would have good sounding synthetisers, I would be on it.

Do you generate reaktor samples from reason because it saves cpu power?John Vulich wrote:Get Reaktor then and generate samples from it for use in Reason. I am looking towards buying my first VST instrument though. I'm thinking either Spectrasonics Trilogy of N.I. Reaktor 5. Hmmmmm..... I'm happy that I haven't had to worry about spending more money on new software until now. Reason + Live 5 is quite comprehensive. But a new instrument would equal more inspiration so now im in the market for one but I fully expect to continue using Reason as my audio workhorse.

Dear basic channel,
You made a really solid choice with Reason! I work with some well known producers and a lot of them use it exclusivly. Don't let ANYONE tell you that any one package is "The Best Ever" and to sell your copy of Reason. My opinion is that Reason is the best package for me and for what I like to produce. You may well find the same to be true for your self. So good choice and enjoy!

Yeah, to some extent, I suppose. Actually I don't really use Reason all that much anymore. I deal mostly with loops that I use in Ableton Live. For the most part, I just use VSTis for creating my own loops. I have a pretty decent Centrino laptop but I also like to use CPU intensive Reaktor Ensembles and a lot of proccessing with various FX like Convolution. Either way I like to have a lot of CPU headroom.RawTheory wrote:Do you generate reaktor samples from reason because it saves cpu power?John Vulich wrote:Get Reaktor then and generate samples from it for use in Reason. I also seem to run into a problems updating VSTis like Reaktor and having the file, that the song is saved to, not able to find the proper plugins and presets later. I just find that it's less hassle to render out loops of all my stuff. With large HDs and copious RAM these days it seems to work out just fine.
More than anything else, the nature of my music revolves around using "found" sounds and collage type techniques. I suppose that I just like to treat my own loops and sounds in a similar manner. Most of my music is made using heavily modulated loops that are out of sync with each other.

This is the most idiotic thing I've read in a long time. What does people "whinning" have to do with a companies policies? The props should be raising their own stakes. They know what the people have been asking for since version 1.01 and havent implemented yet 3 years later. How do I know? I was requesting simple things like a real arp back in version 1.01. 3 years later, nothing. And if they dont release a .5 update it wont be the first time. 1.0 didnt have a .5 update. It just jumped to a payed 2.0. Nothing new for the props.headquest wrote:
To those who keep going on about a version 3.5, I think you have become your worst enemies. By (unjustly, imho) whining about the version 3.0 upgrade, you have raised the stakes for the Props to an extent where the next upgrade has to be really massive. In my opinion, it's the whiners that have meant there will be no 3.5 at all now... we'll almost certainly have to wait for a very significant version 4.0 paid upgrade instead.

As a person that owns both Reason 3 and fl studio 6 producer, I can say this:
I really dislike reason. I find it very hard to use (I am used to sequencing and pattern based recording) and the sound quality is not what I need it for. I mistakenly (in my opinion) bought Reason 3 because I had heard such good things about it. The fact that it cannot load vsti instruments or vst effects at all kills it for me. Now, most of what I do is orchestral, so sonar 5 producer and kontakt 2 get a lot more use than fl studio 6, but I use fl studio 6 as the worlds most effective and open ended drum machine!!! By the way, everything FL Studio does uses sampling and samples, so the person that stated that fl studio does not have sampling (as compared to the totally limited NN-XT_ has no idea what they were talking about. FL Studio ONLY uses samples (wav files and sf2 files) to do what it does. It is a VERY complete program that can do ALMOST everything. It's midi capability is AWESOME if you use the onboard piano scroll feature, it does pattern sequencing better than anything out there and is the world's best REWIRE client (I use it in Sonar 5 through rewire and it is FLAWLESS!!!) It syncs perferctly with any host and can load vsti and vst instruments AS A REWIRE CLIENT!!!
I really cannot say enough good things about fl studio 6. Even it's render engine is top of the line. I own a recording studio and, without telling the client, I will render in sonar 5 producer, fl studio 6 and nuendo (what we USED to use) and then ask the client which sounds the best (we do this for fun some times - sick, aren't we?) You guessed it. The client likes the FL Studio 6 mixdown the best! Messed up, isn't it. Then we take off the blindfold and show they were pointing to BRAND X - just kidding - no brand x . . .
Look, use whatever software you are most happy and comfortable with. I own a variety because I never know what situation will call for one of the next. For example, I mostly have Kontakt 2 for the included VSL lite library and my KHSO Emerald symphonic collection - which works incredibly well in kontakt 2 (Kontakt 2 as a vsti instrument).
Most the time I use Sonar 5 Producer for recording. With it's 64 bit engine, it sounds AMAZING and works flawlessly with zero instances of crashing or freezing up on me.
I use FL Studio for rhythm and arpeggio / backing related work - as a rewire client - and it works great too, as previously stated!
Reason 3 sits on the shelf and gathers dust. Not one client has cared whether we use it or not. And after they hear FL Studio 6, they REALLY don't care. And, yes, we included a Reason 3 mixdown (which was almost impossible because of the LIMITED way it works as a DAW) and not one person liked it over anything else.
