Can't believe what I read here. Guitar Rig 2 is amazing! It sounds amazing! I have presets for about a hundred incredible sounds. From Malmsteen, Gilbert, Van Halen, Bettencourt, Gary Moore, to B. May, S.R.Vaughan... For blues, Jazz, early Heavy Rock... For not speak about his features, FX etc.
All sounds are clones of what I hear in the records.
Amplitube 1? very bad ugly sounds, artificially, thin, not like a real amp in any way.
Incredible posts I read here, really.

I got rid of my POD XT Live. I thought the amp sims were decent, but I reamp too much and did not like having to go through an extra A/D and D/A conversion. That is why the Pro has such advantages.
I decided to go with Guitar Rig 2 after spending time with Amplitube, Green Machine, and Trash. Guitar Rig 2 is superior to the POD and much easier to use. I don't understand what people are talking about with noise, but then I have a good setup.
I got sounds with Guitar Rig 2 that I could not get with Amplitube. I saw no advantage of Amplitube over Guitar Rig 2. The pedal in GR 2 is expendable, although I can't imagine anybody using that as their preamp anyway. Use a good DI and have good A/D and D/A converters, and you get as much as you can get out of a VST.
Still, a good tube amp, some decent mics and a decent room are the best way to go, but GR 2 gives you versatility and ease.
Of course, the difference between Amplitube and GR 2 may just be knowing how to work them and preference of tones. I think that GR 2 has more versatility (but we'll see if Amplitube 2 can take a step ahead). I doubt it.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I did play Marshall Amps quite a few years. Turning it all up to ten makes that sound. BUT, with software that comes along with so many possibilities is not just turning everything up to ten. You have to build the sound yourself. Maybe it's that, why so many people seem not to like amp sims. Take some time and play with all those knobs. You can get out great sounds...

Actually, there was a minor point there, why should I have to twiddle with 4 or even 40 knobs to get the sound I want? Gimme recognisable presets plz, EVERYTIME. That way I can at least have a nice starting point

Yep, that's exactly what Greg's saying- and I agree 100%. Tone first and foremost's in the hands and heart of the player, and not ib the amp...dogod wrote:So you are sayin' that same guitarist will know how to set-up a mesa vs a marshall vs a vox.... hehehe
