just have two quick questions about XT:

Has tap tempo been implemented yet?

Does XT support midi out for hardware control?

Thanks!

No
yes
:)
There are some threads about how to do a workaround for tap tempo. If you do a search you'll find it. Let me know if you don't.

Yes, but AFAIK only 1 MIDI out.

But you can use NicFit's midiout plugin to send midi out to another device.

soma, wow.....those XT midi plugs look great!

unfortunately, I found lots of "tap tempo" threads but I didn't see anything definite as far as a solution. Running another app and having to manually type in a tempo isn't going to be efficient enough for me.

can you show me the link of what you are talking about?

having a tap tempo for me is crucial. I play with a live band and I am currently using Brainspawn Forte as my vst host. Just recently I purchased some hardware and, unfortunately, Forte doesn't support midi out. About a year ago I checked out XT and I loved it but not having a tap tempo killed it for me.

You need this little plugin in I made.
And you nned to setup your sequencer in live mode.
Then assign the tempo to a CC.
download my plug and the example here:

Great idea. Why didn't I think of that? (I mean: applying existing products to solve a problem ;))

Sorry for bringing this up again, but I really don't get the tempo tap thing.

I don't need it while sequencing but for live things.
So it'd be completely irrelevant whether the sequencer was playing anything or not.
I only want to change the tempo (via CC taps) so tempo-synced FX (mainly delays) will stay in sync.

Is there any easy setup for that?

I allready downloaded somas example but couldn't even find out how to control the damn thing (man, I feel so stupid...).

I hope this gets implemented in the future. Something along the lines like ableton live where you tap it for a bar and the sequencer starts on the 1. Hopefully it can be assigned to a midi note also.

As said, I don't need any sequencer to start.
I need some VST host which I can run my amp sims, synths and further FX in, all nicely syncing to some tapped tempo. I'm a guitar player and want to create some nifty custom setup - which is possible allready with the exception of things syncing properly...

In Cubase you have to bring up the beatmapper window first - completely impossible in a live situation.
In Logic I'm getting syncronisation errors galore and it'll also bring itself into play mode automatically (which must not be a bad thing).
Tobybears MiniHost doesn't allow for any such a thing and it's too limited anyways.
Chainer doesn't offer any tempo operations...

So my hope was all with eXT and somas plugin, but I can't seem to understand a single thing.

Anybody knows about Bidule?

Really, I don't even need any sequencing abilities. Would be eternally grateful for any tips.

hey Sascha,

look at Forte http://www.brainspawn.com/ it's exactly what you need. stable as a rock and i gig with it regularly. tap tempo.....etc etc...

for me it is a godsend. really built for the live player in mind

and you can use eXT in it as well.

Maybe keep an eye on this in the future:

works also with 3rd party plugins.

Thanks for the Forte tip, seamoss. Will give it a try later on (theatre gig ahead...). Does it offer tap tempo via some MIDI controller? I mean, I have to have my hands on the guitar...

Yeah, paradiddle, I allready *do* keep an eye on Kore.

Sascha-
I don't have time to explain but I made a setup specifially for you.

http://home.comcast.net/~soma720/TapTempo.ext

Just replace the VST with your own.
IF you need to tap tempo via a midi keyboard too, just let me know. It's easy.
(In the tempo layer, you need to connect midi to the Tap Tempo Alpha).

Brief explanation:
Tempo layer sends tempo info via CC from tap_t_a to a Live sequener with tempo mapped to CC1 (range 10-250).
Your main XT is hosted by that sequencer. It's tempo is controlled by it's host, the live sequencer. the live sequencer's tempo is controlled by the tap tempo alpha.
