it grabs the sample to reverse at a non-zero cross point

Yes that was exactly the problem, tamming the clicks caused by non zero cross samples, and I refused to delay some part of the flipflop just for that but I sadly had to. Now the first sample is recorded one 8th bar later, usually when there is no sound other than a hihat on a drumloop, if I don't do that the cutting gets on top of the bigger transient, now not as a click. but a tiny gap that I wanted to avoid.

I also noticed that this has the potential to be an interesting alternative for a traditional delay/echo when the slider's slightly off center. Messed with it for a few minutes on a vocal track and liked what I heard.

Another trick is to do a "reverb sandwitch"

Put a reverb between two backmans in reverse and you get instant reverse tails.

But, there is again the zero-cross problem, since I had to delay the flip flop the resulting drum pattern with this sandwitch gets changed, you don't get the same rythm. And that is shitty for a vocal take for example, some words ends truncated.

Hmm... I think the next update will have an option to choose where do you want the gap so it works with vocals again.

I just want to say Backman is awesome. I have made some beautiful guitar sounds with it. I also downloaded your Dee-lay plug but it drops out when I select a patch. I am using Sonar 4. Thanks for a great plugin, no glitches with Backman here.

Deelay is suposed to do that because it is an 80 seconds delay so the RAM buffer is quite big, it is mostly useful when you want an specific effect.

A much more light version is "Deelay SM" but it is still more complicated for simple effects, OverDubber is the one that fill that gap and it could be used as a regular plugin on your sequencer.

The whole deelay line is mostly for experimental stuff or as I said, specific effects that you cannot achieve using a bread and butter delay.

Thanks for reporting your results with Backman. :)

BackMan updated to 1.3.2

- Gaps are smaller.

- New "Gap position" button.

- Added some very helpful information about usage, don't forget to read this.

This is the last update for a while, so let me know how it behaves.

Allocates tons of memory when opening until it crashes FL Studio. I suppose the reason is that SampleSnatcher module, as that module just so happend to give me the same symptoms when using it in an SE model. Got an AMD 2200+Xp.

Post

I have an AMD 3200+ on XP and didnt have any problems in FL5/6, minihost or live5...

Strange that one moppel...

Post

Strange indeed, it uses only 14mb when opened in SaviHost and uses 10mb when loaded inside FL.

No crashes, nothing out of normal here.

I'm still using an old version of BackMan, haven't downloaded any recent ones. If it introduced any clicks or pops I probably didn't notice them in the face of the clicks and pops that were put in on purpose. :D

Fun thing is, I wanted to make an effect for backward reverbs myself some days ago, but the SampleSnatcher_I module failed. Today I found your plugin, and I thought "wheee", but it gives me the same symptoms since it uses that very module. :)
I tried it once again, and it's really odd: When starting the plugin, it allocates about 800MB and virtually freezes my machine. But after about a minute or two, the memory is suddenly released and the plugin works. :-o

Maybe you should wait a bit until I update it, I need to buy the Chris Kerry modules in order to use the latest SynthEdit version because BackMan uses some CK modules...but I have no money to do so yet.

Right - you need a PayPal donate button!!!

Actually, the module in question is from David Haupt. Well, I mailed him about the issue. Maybe he has an idea what's going on there.

Thanks for reporting this to Dave Haupt. Yes SN is from him, but the SE project has some CK modules inside that I cannot replace.

Klanglabs used to have one, but nobody donated.

You can always buy Vokko or Stompbud...you can even buy the CK modules and tell Chris to send them to me. ;)
