Uniqueness of EnergyXT?

I won't be able to add much to what's been said allready, just this:
It's offering things no other sequencer allows for. For me these are mainly the MIDI routings (even if I'm confused for some reasons just at the very moment, might ask for help later on...) and subhost qualities.
Right now, I'm configuring it as some giant live guitar rig - and it even seems to be doing that as great as it does all the other things. I can finally (thanks to soma) set up some tap tempo mode, something the big sequencers just don't offer that easily.
Personally, I'm not familiar with the sequencer yet at all - but even without that experience, eXT is still the most valuable tool in my collection.
Without it I'd have to spend at least another 130 bucks or so (for Forte), just to get tap tempo rolling.
In short: The modular/hybrid approach is what does it for me.
Add the incredible short boot up times (no VST scanning and whatever), the rather nice looking GUI (I'm using it in default mode) and there you go.
I'm defenitely one of the persons making use of the least amount of eXTs possibliities (probably like 5% or less), yet I couldn't imagine living without it anymore.
And it seems to be like that for anybody ever using it.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

1) Jorgen and the way he actually communicates with us.
2) A break-away from the hardware desk paragigm (just wanted to use that word) that some others use (thinking Cubase). This includes modularity and allows for greater freedoms.
3) This may sound like a joke, but in all seriousness, THIS FORUM. It isn't full of poop flinging trolls, but instead has some of the most helpful users I have come accross anywhere.

you need to look a bit through my posts - there are several short 'tutorials' on what unique things you can do with eXT's sequencer...visa tapani wrote:
These people know programs like ProTools, CubaseSX, Logic, Max/MSP etc and are somewhat divided between audio technicians and electroacustic music enthusiasts. What would you imagine would be of the most interest for them?
I'll see if I can fins something...

It can't audition notes using modifier keys and arrow keys though, even Cubase can do thatjorgen wrote:modeless pianoroll where you can move/tranpose/resize/velocity/insert/delete notes with mouse and modifier keys and arrow keys
Nah, eXT is truly unique. The unspecified workflows (for every user there's a different workflow), the recursive modularity... The fact that it's a small, clean program that takes a couple of hundred kilobytes and still can create extremely complex patches which then can be loaded into your VST host of choice. But all of that has already been said already, though...

EnergyXT is also unique with some of it's quirks and ommissions.

IF you're really brave . .
see a couple of the attendees if you can,
- find out what they can't do (easily) with their current hosts,
- then in the presetnation show how to do it in eXT (possibly with a few third-party plugins).

Thanks for the pointers!
Lot of the usages of it seem a bit theoretical for me. What kind of things do people use this possibility for?
Oh yeah, this is one thing that I'd like to dig into a bit more, since I hardly ever use it myself.bmanic wrote:it can open it's own VST instances inside itself, in fact, several of them!

Don't the majority of sequencers allow this in one way or another? I mean, I haven't bumped into many big sequencers where parameter automation would be much more clumsy - ProTools, Cubase et al all seem to do it pretty well...R.A.W. wrote:...making every VST plugin controllable with outboard controllers
Could you give an example? I haven't used eXT for surround stuff yet...Sturgeon wrote:Excellent capability for all sorts of surround stuff in extremely high quality!
Now this is very interesting to me, since I use EnergyXT for live stuff - how do you do this?Sascha Franck wrote:I can finally (thanks to soma) set up some tap tempo mode, something the big sequencers just don't offer that easily.

Hey! Unlimited number of sequencers.
Unlimited number of master input busses (soundcard outputs).
No preset config. limitations.
All working @ 32bit float or 24bit/96kHz
