Price in Europe

Hi

I'm seriously interested in buying the Receptor but I'd like to know the reason for such a big price difference between USA and Europe.
In big european music stores (like Thomann in Germany for example) Receptor is sold at 1,699 EUR, 2,027 USD.
In the USA, at JRR Shop for example, it costs just 1,399 USD.
In Germany we have a 16% VAT included but this doesn't justify that big difference: over 600 USD!!!

Who can explain this?

Thanx

Well it comes down to this.... Receptor is a reletively low volume product, and Muse, to stay in business have to sell it for a certain price obviously....
International dealers (such as myself) have to buy from Muse at a given price, and have to pay import duty and sometimes other customs charges ontop.
Basically to make Receptor a viable product for sale by a dealer in Europe the price needs to be around what you quote or else there's little point selling it finiancially for a dealer.

I'm NOT having a dig at Muse here. there's a hell of alot of work gone into Receptor, and they will have alot of development costs to recoupe. To be honest no one I've demo'd Receptor too has thought it's been overpriced at the price it's sold at in Europe. (I'm roughly the same as Thomann...)

Tried to be diplomatic and fair here. I hope you can get my point...

Thank you for your reply. In the past i bought various things in the USA exactly because there was a (in my personal opinion) too big price difference. I payed shipping, vat and import duties and it was still cheaper enough to justify my choice. I noticed that even european products are often much cheaper in the USA than in Europe. Sincerely, if i should buy e Receptor, i would buy it in the USA again. And i'm quite sure that there are many other buyers who did or will do like me. Don't you think that this price politics could have negative consequences for the european dealers? I see that you are located in the UK and it is possible that in your country you don't see a big difference. But in the Euro countries sometimes the difference is really too big. Until about one year ago for example, even Apple products were so much cheaper in the USA and this because the price lists still didn't took in consideration that in the meanwhile the Euro was much stronger over the USD than in the past. Then Apple had to modify drastically their prices in Europe and now you can see a difference of about 30%, depending from the VAT rates in the different countries. (OK, i see, Apple is a big company...)
Receptor is a superb product and as an OSX user it's particularly interesting for me. But almost 50% more than the price in the USA is too much. With this price the answer to the FAQ "So should I buy a Receptor instead of a second computer?" is perhaps only partially true. Of course i'm referring just to the economical side.
I'm not trying in any way to be polemic, on the contrary, i'd like to see much more Receptors around and think that a -20% price in the Euro countries would have a significant positive effect on sales.
