No, all we need is a REAL release date for AT2!!!dr. orange wrote:All we need is love!
Hey IK, how 'bout NOT giving anymore damn release dates, and just say it'll be out when it's done?! I can't wait for the program, especially since I've already purchased it, but man, I'm to the point now of wishing I could just get a refund and go the GR2 route.
Me: When will AT2 be released?!?!?!?
IK: When it's done!
Now that would have been a very acceptable answer to me, but continued let downs sure doesn't help with my image of IK. But then again, I'm just one man, so I guess it doesn't really matter anyway, right? Especially since you already have my money for AT2 and other various plugs from you! LOL

Valid criticisms on release date accuracy. I can see how that is frustrating. Ideally no release dates and it is done when it is done is much better. This industry tends to ask a lot for release dates so one can do their best to predict. You never know for sure until the time comes and you don't want to rush something out of the door just because of a release date. Some do that and I think it is even worse than there being a longer wait. Either way it is not easy (being green?).
IK does care and the developers have done an excellent job. Mid-March/end of March, the product is done and it is just a matter of the final details which include materials, manuals, product being shipped around the world etc.
We can all celebrate pretty soon... and maybe start a new thread too!

Anyway this dongle/no-demo issue starts to really bug me.
What if I buy the upgrade and then discover, as I suspect it to be, that with a dongle I will no longer be able to run my system with a super low latency of 64 samples.
Since I own the UAD card, and each UAD plug tripples the original latency, the difference between 64 samples and lets say 256 samples can be huge.
AT2 + 3 UAD FXs with 64 samples is about 12ms (still playable)
AT2 + 3 UAD FXs with 256 samples is about 32ms
Since there is no demo available...... I will just have to
I just hope there will be a Demo.
I don't mind buying a dongle just to demo it.
Or maybe I will just look at a hardware solution.....
PSA1.1 + some very nice VST FX's

Andrew, there WILL be a demo, and it will require a dongle. That has been confirmed by official IKMM reps and by Squids as well. Unless the official plans changes of course and they drop the demo. Although I don't see a reason for this to happen.I just hope there will be a Demo.

I don't want to sound discouraging at all, but seriously: Demos requiring dongles will be the next big excuse to use warezed versions.
And, if you ask me, rightly so. Sorry, but that's it.
Personally, I won't pay for a demo. I mean, it's just that: a demo. Why should I buy a dongle? Ok, in my case, I do have a Syncrosoft dongle allready, so I may indeed check the demo.
But if I wouldn't have it (and believe me, it's just accidentally due to my job, I don't like Cubase or use it a lot at all), I wouldn't bother with the demo at all. I wouldn't download the crack either (but entirely ignore it instead), but other people may do that. And as said, it's not that I wouldn't understand them.
And yes, it will be cracked one day.
Now, btw, that's another interesting point. Companies are doing all those tough protections to get their sales right until the cracked versions are available (at least that's what they say). Apparently it worked for Cubase SX (which took a long time to be cracked).
But, will it also work for "just another plugin"?
Will it really be interesting enough for potential buyers to offer a product that you can't demo without hassles?
As said, while I won't get a cracked version instead, I would *never ever* even think about buying a dongle just to demo something. And most of the people I know are just like that.

I would buy the dongle to demo under two conditions:
1. The dongle is cheap, and the software I want to buy is relativly expensive
2. if I get a refund on the dongle price if I decide to buy the retail version

Totally Agreed, Sascha!!!!As said, while I won't get a cracked version instead, I would *never ever* even think about buying a dongle just to demo something. And most of the people I know are just like that.
Why do we want a demo? Because we don't know if we want to buy it, right? If we have to buy something just to find out if we want to buy another thing
Some firms are fighting pretty hard against potencial costumers. Damn, go away customer, go away...

So a dongle will create higher latency and CPU usage (thought this is what I read somewhere in this thread)?

This remains to be unproven. But apparently (if you trust the info material the hacker groups spread, recently posted in some thread) in the case of Cubase SX there's a LOT of dongle calls going on during each session. Obviously, this can't be ideal for optimum audio performance. But as said, nobody could ever prove anything. And even if you'd compare a crack against a legit version, it wouldn't show anything as apparently a dongle emulator is used. So the dongle calls would just remain the same.1991lespaul wrote:So a dongle will create higher latency and CPU usage (thought this is what I read somewhere in this thread)?
Personally, I've got no idea as to what to think, just so much: Cubase isn't exactly a prime example for efficiency. More like the opposite, it's one of the most CPU hogging pieces of shit there are. Might be partially related to the dongle, but it might as well just be some uber-lousy blown up code (which Steinberg isn't exactly unknown for). Perhaps a combination of both...

The usb key does not affect performance according to what I know and have experienced. It just protects it.
I was asking about demo versions and I think there could possibly be a limited demo that doesn't have the need for a USB key. Maybe not right away but everyone recognizes the obstacle there. That said, a lot of people already have this particular USB key since it is used for Steinberg products, Miroslav and others. Also the key can be purchased on its own for $20 or so. A full working time out demo will likely be available to those that have or want to get a USB key. So hopefully there will be two different demos, one that requires a key and one that doesn't. The other way you will hopefully be able to demo it is in the stores.
None of that is official. Just some insight into the subject. I will let you know when I know more.

Thanks for the reply Sascha, It has given me a better understanding. Off topic question. What is the 1/4" line out on a tube head for?

Squids, that would be really neat! A minimal demo version maybe with one amp or something just to demo it, and a full time trial version with a USB key.I was asking about demo versions and I think there could possibly be a limited demo that doesn't have the need for a USB key.
I like that.
